Building plastic again after a long break

Greetings from Homosassa, Fla. My name is Steven Perry, but Steve or sp works better. I'm  64 and 1 yr, 11 months from retirement.

I've been scratching my airplane itch with R/C models for the past decade. I recently bought a WnW Sopwith Pup kit as a reference aid for my 1/3 scale Pup which I intend to start after I retire. I have been having so much fun with the WnW kit that I set up a bench for building plastic in the corner of my shop. Something I intended to do after retirement, but decided not to wait.

By the looks of the masterpieces I have seen posted here, I have a lot of new techniques to learn. And by the look of what I have done so far on the Pup, a lot of rust to knock off the techniques I once had mastered.

I'm getting older daily, but I adamantly refuse to grow up, so it all sounds like fun to me.

Hi Steve! Welcome to the site! It sounds like you have exactly the right attitude to the hobby, so please don't be shy to add your build experience of the Pup! It is a very nice kit... I hope you get lots of inspiration here! Regards, Marc

Hi Steve - welcome to a very friendly spot indeed  :) You couldn't wish to be with a better bunch of 'guys' - Marc is right - you'll get all the inspiration you could wish for here

I concur with your assessment - I give you about seven years but I too have been steadfastly refusing to grow up since that first stick and tissue model at eleven years old - Great isn't it  ;D

It's great to see you here, Steve!  Welcome aboard!  As I recall, you used to do a lot of really nice 1/72 scale Russian Civil War stuff.  The shift up in scale is common among us old farts.  I look forward to seeing your Pup.

    Your intro sounds very familiar to me Steve. I started back to serious modelling at the tender age of 65 as well, and my first Wingnut Wings Kit was the Pup. I'm pretty sure the "trappings" of age were the biggest reason for my shift up in scale as well as Bud mentions!
   You've found the best place to be, great info, support, and a friendly atmosphere are all part of this wonderful Forum. Enjoy, and welcome aboard!

It's a small world....I lived in Crystal River for 7 years and worked as a flight instructor at the airport. I'm looking forward to seeing the Pup...got to be easier  to model a pup than a manatee.....

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. It good to see some Listees here. Ian, did they have that marvelous collection of solid models when you worked at  the Crystal river airport?
 
So far the Pup is just started, I finished the cockpit step today and took a week getting there. Are build logs done here on an as you go basis or posted after the fact? I've mostly been looking at completed models.

Looking forward to enjoying this forum.

Greetings, Steven. I myself am relatively new here but I have to tell you the atmosphere is very casual, friendly and relaxed. Post build logs at your leisure. I've never known a more helpful respectful group to share the hobby with 8)

Yes Steve, they did. It was a growing collection, with Gudi buying Tom a model or two for birthdays etc. For those who don't know, Gudi and Tom are the owners of the flight school. Tom is an ex Navy Corsair pilot and and his wife Gudi is the Chief Instructor. The airport was recently named after Tom for his services to the airport and the flying community.

A WNW 1/32 as a test bed for an even bigger replica!  that's quite a story for a former 1/72 builder :) !
I am keen on seeing your builds (of course including the RC planes!)
