Tales from the Crypt: My 1/72 collection
« on: May 03, 2016, 11:35:00 PM »
Hello,
offering my unbuilt 1/72 kits on this site, I thought it could be a good idea to post some pics of my 1/72 WWI airplanes and dioramas that I actually built between about 2000 and 2010, when I quit 1/72 scale. Please don't be too critical, most of These models are really old... (and excuse the dust  ;)  )
I show what's left of my bigger collection, but I moved appartments several times and this and other accidents destroyed several of my old models from these days

Eduard's Albatros D V; a good kit

MAC's SPAD 7 in Spa48 markings. Although I do not like the SPAD very much, this kit was quite good...

Flashbacks 1 1/2 strutter. I built it Long before I knew that French Strutters were painted with silver dope.

RPM's Renault Ft-17. A terribly difficult kit to build

A Scene from the Marne battle 1914. I built it after having read the novel "Krieg" from Ludwig Renn

Eduards D. H. 2 in Hawkers Colors. The dio depicts Hawkers last take-off before being shot down by Richthofen. I remember me building this dio with snow, then I discovered searching the Internet that the November of 1916 was much too warm...

My beloved Unfinished: I always loved the Halberstadt Cl. II and when Ardpol released their resin kit, I finally started to built her in Schlasta 26b colors (this unit comes from Fürth, in my neighbourhood). I wanted THE model of the Halberstadt, wanted to built THE PERFECT model. Of course, I never finished her...

Roden's Pfalz D III in Jasta 4 colors. Great kit! It went togehter like a dream.

Halberstadt Cl. IV from Lüdemann kits. At least I finished that one

I am strangely fascinated by the battle of Verdun 1916. I took several steps to portray it, this is one of these tries.

My first Albatros D I: one of my oldest models, Pegasus kit; my Roden Albatros D I didn't survive till today.

I always loved Nieuports. This is the old Revell kit with Roseparts replacements

MAC's Roland D VI(a?)

My Interpretation of that famous plane. I startet with the Roden kit and ended with a kitbash between Roden and Revell. This was the worst Roden kit I ever got in my hands...

I always liked the Ford-T ambulances, here in British Service. Ist a Fine Scale Factory resin kit which was fantastic. And I liked the novel "Die Pflasterkästen" written by Alexander Moritz Frey.

This dio is called "The Souvenir hunter 1917". I'll tell this Story in 1/32 some day again, but with a more appropriate staff car  :)

This dusty bird is Czech Masters resin kit. It was my first resin kit ever. (I know now that the upper wing shouldn't be straight...) Juist after I had finished it, after I had shortened all those struts in the correct length and managed to get that heavy upper wing on them Eduard released their fantastic injection molded J. I ....

That's also before Eduard released their Fokker E III: It's a ICM E IV conversion

Another Unfinished: "Flamethrowers around Fort Vaux"

That's the freshly released Eduard Profipack. This time I had waited long enough! Here you see my first steps in figure sculpting.

Toko's Nieuport 11 with Roseparts replacements; custom made decals on an ink Jet Printer (back in 2004 or so)

"Battle of the Somme 1916" – Revell's WW2 German artillery converted, gun is from Emhar

Again a Ford-T ambulance, this time at Verdun.

"Cambrai 1917" – Emhar Mark IV tank and converted Hät figures

Signs of a modelling crisis: When 1/72 begun not to satisfy me any longer, i went into 1/144 for a short time and scratchbuilt. It didn't end the crisis (The tripe, I think, is 3D printed, the rest is Balsa Wood and scrap plastic)

Back to 1/72:

"8th of August 1918": a resin tank (I cannot remember the producer's name) and an Emhar gun

"Thirst": Verdun; I built this Diorama when I read that thirsty French and German soldiers frequently met at shellholes filled with dirty water.

Verdun again: I tried to depict the painting "L'Enfer" by Georges Leroux from 1921.

Thank you!

My thoughts exactly, Borsos!  What wonderful small scale stuff, especially the dioramas!

Absolutely awesome collection Borsos! Halberstadts are my favorite aircraft. I really like the effect you achieved on the wings, looks like real fabric to me. Many thanks for sharing these great pictures!

These are super models and dies. I can only agree with what has been written - an outstanding collection indeed. What a shame that some have been lost in moves - you would have had an even larger collection to be envious of.

Fantastic collection. I also got a bit fed up with 1/72 but now and again the urge comes over me, but I never reached this kind of quality.

Yes, gobsmacked.

I am specially taken by your management of colors - all are well muted, nothing is stark.  And weathered where appropriate.  Wonderful.
