Modeling Slump

I think it is time to admit that I am in a slump. I worked on the Roden SE5a for 7 months only to end the build in frustration. Now the Salmson and Pfalz have both had glitches and I just haven't felt like dealing with  them for 2 weeks. So, I figured it was time to eliminate the Crap in my life.... I started cleaning the Man Cave. I filled 3 large trash bags with junk and trash and I am not quite done. I now can see my desk and auxiliary work space. Even better I can walk from the door to my desk without stumbling around or tripping on junk. I also took the opportunity to change out which cases the models were stored in. I feel better already  8)

When I have trouble getting the Mojo going I find I can get it kick started usually by doing exactly what you are doing -- cleaning and organizing. It's much more fun to make a mess in a clean space :)

   A general clean up and reorganization works for me as well. I can usually have the place back into a state of chaos with about half a day's modelling so these little therapy breaks come often! ::) ;)

Wonderful collection Amigo !!  Well the slump I'm in is due to too many outside events needing full time attention. Hopefully they'll all be done by the end of April and I can get back to my bench.  Gotta get something done for Columbia...

Good idea about the stepping back and reorganising, Rick.  You really have a
mouthwatering collection and lots to come!  Hey even the Babe had slumps, my friend! ;) :D

Hi all

Yes, I sometimes turn to having a good sort out when experiencing a slump in terms of a complex build, but also I resort to something simple straight out of the box without super-detailing etc. It's more a case of reminding myself that I can finish things.

I usually do what everyone else seems to do, clean and organize.  Then I build something completely off subject and probably not too interesting,  like a 1/24 scale hot rod or car.  That's what I'm building now...a Lindberg '38 Ford street rod.

If its any consolation Rick, having a tiny workspace does not really make much difference - the slumps still come! In my case it is things in life at the moment - being constantly distracted does not help the concentration and tends to sap the enthusiasm. So I go off and do some writing instead - that usually helps. Being creative is draining andd the batteries have to be recharged somehow.

BTW - that is a wonderful collection of models - just wish I had the space for so many. Which is why I model in God's Own Scale - I can at least have more models for the same amount of space.

Thanks for all of the support guys! I took more photos of the process. The other case now visible is holding the 1/48th collection. On top can be seen damaged and incomplete projects. I will probably repair the damage but doubt I will ever finish the incomplete stuff.

Great work, and yeah, cleaning up can lead to getting your mojo back. I tried it this winter over several weekends. Felt good about getting the room cleaned up, but still can't find the mojo to put knife, glue, or paint to styrene.  :(

I know what you mean, Amigo.  After finishing my DFW, I really didn't feel like building anything else.  Then I cleaned off the bench and within days, I was back with a vengeance, with two builds going.  Now, look at my bench.

It never ends...
