Astonishing work Ian. It's hard to believe it's based on the Airfix kit at all.

Beautiful work on the rigging, Ian, it's hard to believe it's 1:72 Scale with what you've done here. She's going to be a stunning model.
Good luck on Weds, you'll be back "slipping the surly bonds of earth" again in no time!
Cheers,
Lance

That rigging looks great - a superb touch to an already outstanding model.

Best of luck on Wednesday - will be thinking of you.

Stephen.

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback, and more so for the good wishes for my op on Weds, very much appreciated!

I had a little setback this morning while trying to clean up the underwing areas where the rigging exited. I managed to somehow flex the plane in the jig and popped 2 landing wires and a flying wire. The only real drawback of this jig is the lack of support for the fuselage, allowing movement up and down if you're clumsy, like me!
The flying wire I managed to save, but I removed and replaced the 2 landing wires. I then started on the aileron control wires, fastening them first to a couple of very tiny pieces of .015" plastic rod under the fuselage, then when that joint had set, tensioning them and securing them where they pass through the lower wing. They'll stay at that point for now....
Next up was to remove her from the jig and fit the undercarriage. That was done without any mishaps and she now stands proudly on her (for now) slightly wobbly legs. They have been given a dab of thin CA and she's propped up, nice and level, until tomorrow!

The next step will be to complete the aileron rigging with the line joining the lower ailerons, (up through the upper wing and running along its length), finishing the actuating cables started today, and adding the cable from the lower ailerons to the outer upper ailerons. The aileron connecting struts will be added at the same time. After that is done, the outer wing rigging can be completed.....it doesn't sound too much if you say it quickly!

Thanks for looking in,

Ian

Rigging never sounds much if you say it quickly enough….. Just that I find that I cannot rig as quickly as I can say it!

Shaping up beautifully - I can now see what a gem this will be when complete.

Outstanding results on the rigging and it looks great sitting on the undercarriage struts! Like the others I hope all goes well with your Operation.

Thanks again to all for the good wishes. The op went without a hitch (although getting there was another story, my driver's car wouldn't start and I had a mad panic to find someone who wasn't working - I ended up driving myself there and a friend picked me up when he got off work) and was over almost before I knew it - about 20 mins from wheeling in to wheeling out! The follow-up yesterday morning showed no problems so hopefully I can get back flying very soon!

I got back to the bench for a short stint this afternoon and finished off the aileron rigging and connecting struts. I'd started on this before the op but that screached to a halt when I realised that I'd somehow managed to cut one of the struts too short, so I had to make another one! One side was completed, the other done today.

It just needs trimming and tidying up, then I can add the last of the rigging to the wings - the wires to the king posts above the outer wings, and bracing wires from the outer upper wing to the lower strut ends.

Thanks for looking in!

Ian
