Model Airways kits

Hello all,

Just stumbled across Rizzo's build of a 1/16th Model Airways Camel - what a cracker!

I was wondering if anyone else has had a go at one of these kits? Feedback? His is incredible, but are they achievable for mere mortals?

UFAG has been going thru the Albatros D.Va here in a wonderful build, replacing virtually all of the parts save much of the wood. And a good thing too as the white metal parts in the kit, I hate to say it, are truly execrable. It's high on my list of "someday" projects, (actually 've already started on the motor...)

Martin - I didn't know they did a DR1? Where did you get it from?

I buy it in Germany, it goes over Krick. They imported that.

Model expo is the company.they also do ships.there's a Fokker dr1 ,Albatros D5,camel,nieuport 28,and Curtiss Jenny.they all include the wood framing parts in detail Parts mostly in white metal.but as no expressed the metal parts are average to poor especially in this large scale.

That does scare me slightly as i think metalwork is beyond my limited modelling abilities... But they do look amazing.

I can probably pick one up in the US (as I go there quite a bit with work) and get one for a decent price?

If anyone stumbles across a cheap or discounted kit in the States I'd b very grateful if you could share the link?

Model Expo has them on sale at regular intervals... Maybe you could work with a forum member here in the States to have one delivered to, which you could then pick up when you are in town?

And thanks Bo, but I can get things delivered to the hotel, so it's quite straightforward. May be worth my while emailing them and maybe they can let me know when they have a sale..

Is there a best one to get? I like the DR.1 I think - although it would be the camel except that they don't supply a cowling which is a shame...

I've noticed I can get an Albatros on their eBay site £130 / $189 - on the website it's $350! The Fokker is even more $500 -  But £156 / $220 on their eBay store!

Crazy differences?

If I do get one, it will be between the Fokker and the Albatros, is one clearly better than the other? I think the Fokker is the newer kit...

I've built the Albatros and Neiuport and they are a lot of fun I have the DR 1 and it looks like another fun build but I'm going to build the Camel first The metal prts aren't the best but with some work and paint they don't look bad It seems Model Expo has them for a better price on Ebay so I would buy there

I have been a customer of theirs for years and they have always been very efficient and reliable. That said, I have the Sopwith Camel kit and completed the engine, propeller and fuselage framework but got so frustrated trying to turn the lumps of white metal supplied in to some resemblance of a scale component that I shelved the project.
