Want to tour New Zealand and visit The Vintage Aviator?
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:56:55 PM »
If a ten day (roughly) tour of the North Island of New Zealand were to be offered, taking in the best of our aviation heritage as well as the sights of the country, is this the sort of thing you or your friends would be interested in? Starting in Auckland, ending in Wellington, taking in a Vintage Aviator airshow, with optional flights possible in a TVAL aircraft, as well as a Tiger Moth and P40. This is just a concept at this stage, but the basic idea has been mentioned to TVAL with an initial positive response. The tour would be fully escorted by local Aviation enthusisats and someone with 25 years experience in the travel industry.
As this stage we are just looking for indications of interest in such a thing before we go any further down the track of putting something together.
Any and all comments welcomed!
Tony

G'day, Tony.

Definitely.  My lady loves aircraft (we've been to Temora, Illawarra and HMAS Albatross a few times) and we've been discussing going to Wairarapa next year (well I've been discussing it since getting the WWI aircraft bug, and Michelle's been smiling indulgently....).  One stumbling block was finding other things to do while we were there, so a prearranged tour with an aviation bent would be welcome.

Cheers.

Dal.

Tony,

Something that I'd love to do, but distances and funding are two major impediments to me: 9,300 miles direct distance from here to there plus the attendant return flight costs = I don't think that I can make it.

But to get a flight in a TVAL aircraft? Now THAT is a real motivator!  ;)

Good luck with your plans!  ;D
Cheers!

I will be touring the North and South Islands on a motorbike in early 2017.
Will drop in on a few aerodromes  ;) and not forgetting LOTR sites.

Saving like crazy for this dream to become reality.

Would love to Tony and I'm only just across the ditch..........If only my finances would allow it - perhaps if it becomes a going concern I'll make it one day ::)

Sounds superb ;)

It's a very long way to travel and would definiely be a boot in the $ posterior (on the wallet side naturally) The events / Hilites as you state them however sound absolutely wonderful. I'll be watching this Thread carefully for developments and further details. Depending on price and timing this could have a lot of "potential". 8)

Tony,
Any more details or progress? I've been putting off a vacation to Hawaii (SWMBO's dream come true) for years. Since I'm facing a 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2013 And feeling real old (ie. out comes the "Bucket List") I"ve been thinking about this a lot, might all fit together for the "Grande Finale, or hopefully Grande Soiree combination. Keep me updated, I know of one fanatic I could probably entice to go and several others that I might be able to use the "lie, cheat, and steal" approach on.
A TVAL Airshow would be an incredible experience; a "hop" (stick time definitely mandatory for this old Flyer) in aTVAL Kite the ultimate, and just seeing the sights etc worth the price.
If this doesn't "fizzle out" keep me posted. 8)
Cheers,
Lance

Start saving your pocket money - you have plenty of warning, we are looking at the November 2013 TVAL airshow as the highlight of our little tour.

Will keep you updated as we start to put a detailed itinerary together

Tony,
Been a while since the last entry; any updates? (this topic is a possibility my feeble little mind returns to on a regular basis!)
Cheers,
Lance ;D
