Engine Oberursel-Ur II (1/8 Hasegawa)
« on: February 28, 2016, 02:52:48 AM »
This is my first model in this forum. I hope you like it.

Brief History of the Engine:
The Oberursel Ur II engine is a licensed replica of the French Gnôme et Rhône aircraft manufacturer. This company awarded before the First World War worldwide license to clone. The engine factory Oberursel AG in Taunus acquired a license and developed the engine on. The Type II Ur was a rotary engine with 15.1 liters and 110 hp. It was used from 1916 in various fighter aircraft, including the Fokker Dr.I. Opposite line engines of rotary engine had a lower weight and better cooling. However, these engines were also very maintenance intensive, and not easy to fly, which is why it shortly after the end of the war disappeared relative back from the scene.

If I did not know that this was a model I could have been mistaken into believing that it was in a museum. Wonderful piece of modelling - and thanks too for the background. So useful to have such information to hand.

Beautiful job, Jürgen!  I agree with everyone else.  It looks like the real thing.
