I've painted the underside of the top wing to show the iron cross bleeding through.

Here is a photo of the top wing with iron cross mask I cut on my computer.

Wanted to get more done this weekend but this is all I've got done. More to follow.

The bleed through of the cross is perfect!

Exactly. This is what I love about modeling stuff from this era -- your artistic license has been approved and issued!
Hi,

i agree with Bo.
This makes modeling, everyone can build as he wants. One builds absolutely true to detail, the other, so he likes it. both Looks good at the end.
I like what I see here and look forward if there is to see more! :D

Some snaps of the engine before it was buried deep in fuselage.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Here is the upper wing topside.  Pre-shaded, the cross and white still need to be masked off.  Ready for a coat of blue. It might be to stark with the heavy black base. If it is then dip it in some automotive brake fluid and start again.

A sample of the blue and black stripes with pre-shading on the top wing. I'll post shade the other parts tomorrow and see which I like better.   Then I'll go at the rest from there.

Here are the sun-assemblies friction fitted to check in on how it's progressing. Still lots of work to go. Wing tape and shading etc. I elected not to include the black stripe between the two cockpits topside, might go back and add it this morning.

Well I came back from a ski vacation, feeling good about moving on with this.  I gave the underside of the wings a quick coat of paint to even out the under wing shadows of the iron cross and tail stripes.  Used some Testors acrylic, the premixed stuff in the large rectangular bottles.  Painted just fine, as it dried it left huge cracks in the finish.  Much deeper than the coat that was sprayed on.  I tried to strip it off, but the topside finish got some damage from the removal on the underside.  So the flight surfaces went into the brake fluid to be stripped totally, and time to start over again.  Really a big setback, might set this aside for a while, and refocus later.  Not sure what happened with the paint.  The Gunze Sangyo acrylic undercoat had been dried and unpainted for at least 10 days, before the Testors paint was applied. So it shouldn't have been a drying issue.  I bought that paint to have a supply of ready mixed basic colours for just a quick squirt of paint when needed, I'll be scrapping that brand of paint from here on in.
