WNW Snipe (early) OOB

Hello All,

Well..with the joy that was the WNW Roland, I decided to start another favorite...the Snipe.  It's been done beautifully by several folks here and I hope to add mine to the list.

As seems to be the norm, it takes much longer to paint all the parts and detail things than it does to actually assemble the kit!  Here are a couple of shots getting the cockpit in order...




Ouch...I need to work on those gun crash pads a bit...

The model was then put together in pieces that will make painting pretty easy.  In this shot, the bottom wing is glued on as well as the cabanes.  The top wing and tails are just sitting there.  It's really hard to mess this one up! 



More painting this weekend.  I'll be trying to make my color more "brown" as I think that will look nice next to my "greener" planes I have around.

Beautiful work on the cockpit Dan, I was actually looking at those machine gun pads and was wondering how you managed to get that very realistic worn leather look  . Looking forward to seeing more updates.

Hi Des...that's funny! 

Actually, I first colored them with brown colored pencil...it didn't stick well and so I painted them with brown.  I must have hit them while installing and THAT'S how you get the worn leather look!  Ha, ha...

Great start Dan, and yes, that "Machro" mode on the camera is a real honest broker, saved my bacon many times! Enjoy the Kit, it's real beauty, and I'll be following closely!

Thanks, Everyone.  Much, much appreciated.  So, I spent a nice day with some basic painting of colors (no weathering or rib tapes etc. yet) and decals too.  The only thing glued on in these shots are the tails, landing gear, cabanes and cowling.  I just have it sitting so you can see the overall beast.  I think it might have been Rick (?) who said this kit is maybe the best fitting of the WNW...I have to agree in that it cobbles together with no fuss and everything self-aligns so far.  It's so different than the vac Staggerwing Beech I'm working on now.  Light years. 




Anyway, a good bit of progress.  Tonight I might add the interplanes just so see how well they fit (!!) and then I'll start doing a bit of weathering and the wheels as well.  What a machine!

Ha!  I DID add the interplanes!  They are just stuck in to see how things lined up.  There was no need to even worry.  I mean...what's the point?

Absolutely beautiful painting Dan! It was indeed me that mentioned the engineering on this kit  This kit has a self aligning wing and it is impossible to get the struts in the wrong place. Yours is looking stunning!

Wow, Dan!  That was fast, yet very well done!  I was just about to comment on your brilliant cockpit work, then I scroll down and see that you've completed painting and decaling.  Amazing!
