Great start on your diorama, Edo! I especially like your sandbags. I'm looking forward to seeing this completed with the morser in place.

Hello,
outstanding work, it actually looks awesome! Congratulations!
I'm interested in what you are going to do with the figures? Because I think all the guys are wearing the early war spiked helmet. Only artillerymen from Bavaria wore them at all (all the other artillery crews wore a ball instead of a spike). But because you decided to paint the Mörser in the Buntfarbenanstrich of 1918 they should wear either fourage cap or steel helmet. Could that be of any help:

I'm looking forward to see more pics of your diorama.
Kind regards

Hi Borsors!
Thank you for the useful information!
Actually I am not so deep into history to have known those details, so again thank you for the information!
My choices are much more inspired by an aesthetic point of view: which is to say what I like most! instead of historical accuracy  ;D
This is why I choose that scheme or the spiked helmet.
The steel helmet is included in the kit, so I could actually switch  ::) maybe I'll give it a try, post some pictures and see what do you think.

As far as the use of the figures, I was thinking to use them as infantrymen on patrol and/or walking towards the front line and passing by the gun. I am not using them as gunner as I think that too much modification of the figures should be involved and I am no good at it. As in the Kit there are also 3 russian figuers another option is to use one of those as a prisoner escorted by the infantrymen in the rearguard and passing by the gun...

What do you think?
ciao
Edo

Hi Edo,
I totally understand that, fun and pleasure are the most important issues in modelling. I absolutely agree. :)
If you'd like to add historical accuracy (which is completely up to you of course) then you could think about dropping these early war figures with the spiked helmet for that special scene. The Buntfarbenanstrich was introduced so late in the war that no German frontline soldier would have been wearing the spiked helmet any more (besides of some high ranking generals). And the scene with a captured Russian is a great idea, but the war on the Eastern Front was over before this camouflage was introduced... If you are interested, I'd show you some other figures, which are already posted somewhere else on this forum:
http://www.shapeways.com/product/E2X42NLAR/1-48-german-ground-crew-set-3?li=user-profile&optionId=57070288
That guy produces these figures in 1/32 (or 1/35? I'm not entirely sure) too. I've got some of them in 1/48 and they are really fine. Although he sells them as airfield mechanics, they are absolutely ok for artillerymen without any modification: Boots and fourage cap, that's their apearance from 1914 to 1918, as you can see on the fotos that you posted of the real gun.
I wish you all the best with this great looking diorama!

Hi friends!
thank you again for the support!
I want to show you some pic of where I stand now...
First I'll show you some small items I build from scratch that will be added to the diorama: some shells, spent cardrages, shell's baskets, wedges to reduce recoil and a sort of wicked carpet used to reduce recoil (?) or stop mud from engulfing the gun itself.
They have still to be finshed, but you get an idea...

These items will be added to the gun pit

This is the gun itself (sorry for the poor pictres...)

and a couple of figures... Borsos, I have considered your suggestions, but ...  ::)... well, I was already committed...

Hope you like them!!

ciao

You have done a magnificent job with the accessories for this diorama Edo, the shells and shell casings, the shell baskets and mating are all superb, the gun itself is excellent and the figures look very good, looking forward to seeing more updates on this project.

Wonderful diorama, Edo, very well done! You kept the overall impression of a busy, messy Gunemplacement perfectly. I admire your work and try to learn for my own diorama projects.
Best wishes
Borsos

P. S.: Must be a very dangerous Russian being guarded by three Germans  ;)

Extremely well done Edo, a very busy scene with lots to look at, your attention to the finer details is exceptional, the addition of the figures adds a touch of realism.
