There are plenty of clear acrylic rods (perhaps even locally- try your phone book for just plain "plastics") that should fit the bill for you.

Congratulations!

I like the turning propeller impression as well. For some in-flight model I have used clear acrylic rod, I it bends easiliy with a hairdrier or paint stripper. I get mine from a Dutch online shop. If you need only one bit for now I may send you some as well, but I'll have to see how thick it is as I'm more of a 1/72 builder...
