Thanks for the good wishes Gary. At this rate I may re-label the Thread "Mr. Bean builds a Fee"! It's the largest Model I've done to date and I'm finding my desk surface slightly less then the area required........ Needless to say a Gotha, AEG, or gawd forbid a Felixstowe wouldn't at all fit in!
Cheers,
Lance

Lance,

This build has been a real pleasure for me to watch.  I will be bookmarking this for when I screw up the courage to undertake this beautiful (but daunting) kit.  Looking forward to the rest.

Chris

Lance,
I thought I had commented on your latest update but found I was wrong. So, your strut alignment and buckles look fantastic! I hope you were able to deal with your super glue mishap with no problem? I still don't know how you guys keep all of those wirs separated. I would end up with a tangled mass  ::)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Chris. It is a daunting Kit, I've never had to approach a Build so carefully, it's just SO delicate!

"I would end up with a tangled mass"
Rick, you are very correct, you wouldn't believe how many times I've untangled that mass! I'm leaving the CA repair until touch up time, I have it scraped down to plastic and will be sanding, then spraying it. It's only about one-half an inch in diameter so hopefully I can blend it back into the finish.
Cheers,
Lance

You're doing a tremendous job here Lance. In particular, the cylinder bank and wiring on that fully tricked out engine looks superb. Heck, the whole engine looks like you could start it up right now. I think it's as realistic as you could ever hope to achieve. I also like your use of Baremetal foil. I often think that it's not used as much as it could be in our modelling pursuits and in this instance, it certainly fits the bill.

Are you sure that you've never built an AFV?  ;D  You could teach a lot of tank modellers a thing or two when it comes to weathering. Your chipping is 'bang' on. Not too pronounced nor subdued. It's perfect. The weathering on the leading edges is very eye catching too, especially as it's done with Tamiya weathering pastels. Darned if I can achieve that effect in my fruitless attempts at using them. I'll be picking your brain about that in the near future. Lastly, I really like the 'hairy' look 'Jess' has about her right now. That is an impressive tangle of rigging you have going on there!

Keep up the good work! This is going to be a show stopper when she's done.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for looking in Martin and Chris. The Bare Metal Foil is very delicate Chris, mine is very old stock so that could be part of the problem.
As for the Tamiya Pastels I found them awkward as well, then tried to remove some with the good old "Mark One Finger" and eureka, the effect was exactly what I wanted and couldn't achieve with the applicator! I ended up applying it with the sponge, then blending it back (direction of flight) along the surface with a finger and the effect is quite good IMHO.
Cheers,
Lance

Well, I ran out of reasons to not mount the upper wing this morning, and it's successfully attached to the assembly. After an abortive attempt to use a 5 Minute Epoxy I reverted back to the thin and fast setting CA using the Kit box as an alignment tool. Other then one slightly bowed outer strut that will need to be trimmed a bit and a few CA spots to refinish all went very well. It's a lot sturdier then I anticipated, now the trick is to get all that rigging done. The fuel lines from the two 8 Gal. wing tanks will require some adjustment as well.

.......and here's a shot of the wing alignment which came out very nicely as well. (excuse the poor quality of the photo)

Now it's time for the ultimate eye test, the rigging will not be a short duration step!
Cheers,
Lance

Great to see the wing fitted Lance, now comes the most enjoyable part of building WW1 biplanes, the rigging  ;) ;)

Just caught up with this again Lance - my word that has come on. I don't envy you sorting out the bird nest of rigging but I'm sure it looks a lot worse that it is. I've been using an acquired crochet hook to drag the cable - only just found out however that they come in varying sizes some much smaller than mine.

I'm off on a tangent I'm afraid - it's going to be hard to stay focussed however watching builds like this one going on  ::)

Good luck with the remaining work

Regards - Tug

There are many wires for your very beautiful build Lance.

Thanks Gents for your much appreciated comments. There are an awful lot of wires on this one, but they all make sense as the job progresses. Tug, I like that crochet hook idea, I normally "fish" the lines with a pair of tweezers, takes several tries, a crochet hook would work much better methinks!

Lance
