WNW Roland C-II OOB
« on: January 11, 2016, 09:34:57 AM »
All,

I am trying this huge scale for a change!  My wife got me this model for Christmas and it's one of my favorite planes.  I started it and things went pretty fast, hence no "unboxing" shot.  We all know what's in there anyway  ::)  My build will not be as cool as Far-East's, but it will still look nice.  I plan on doing a basic scheme and use the Lewis gun firing forward...but leaving off the "fish" etc.  I just want a run of the mill work horse in the field.

Thanks for looking!
Dan

That was very quick Dan but what you have done so far is excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing you progress with this build.

Thanks, Des...you could really make this one look great.

Here is one more tiny update.  I added/painted engine parts.  Nothing is weathered yet but I'm amazed how complicated and neat it all looks just by painting with the call-out numbers from WNW.  A great product to be sure...

I'll be adding a bit more to the engine and then closing her up!

Cheers,

Dan

Thanks, Rick...

I wanted a simple and stress free build right now and this guy fits the bill!  I can't believe how you basically jiggle the parts and things fall into place...I guess I'm used to scratch building and vacuforms.  Plus, I was getting really guilty as my wife has bought me several WNW and I have not finished one yet!  My new year's resolution is to get as many of them completed as possible!  ;D

Such a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Wow...this thing does just sort of fall together.  I am kind of surprised about how some of the parts have hard to remove mold lines and I botched the seam on the dorsal part of the fuselage.  I'll likely just sand it off and add a pulled piece of sprue as a facsimile...

These shots show it just stuck together without glue (wings, struts...).  I'm amazed how everything just lines up and is perpendicular without any help from the modeler.  Amazing what can be done with engineering and computers these days!

Here it is with a stable mate.  They are very close in size.  I guess the Roland wasn't too huge!

Since these shots, I have done some needed seam filling around the forward cockpit and nose, the fin assembly to fuselage joint and exhaust pipe.  It's been primed and I'll make little changes tonight and then off to the paint shop!!   8)

Cheers,

Dan

Looking really good! You are moving along at a pace that embarrasses me, as my builds take forever  :-[

Thanks, folks, for looking and commenting...

Not an exciting update...but it's ready for the paint shop!  I'll start the wings and stab/elevator first.  Shooting for CDL like I've seen done so well on this site.  Wish me luck!

Cheers,
Dan  ;D
