New 1/72 RFC/RAF figures from Gunthwaite Miniatures
« on: January 10, 2016, 10:08:32 AM »
http://www.gunthwaite.co.uk/news.htm

The latest release from Gunthwaite breaks new ground: they are their first figures produced in resin and they are their first First World War subjects (although some of their naval range is suitable for RNAS).  The figures are pilots based on a well known photograph of No.1 Squadon at Clairmarais South in July 1918.  The photo is interesting because it illustrates the variety of clothing worn on flying service during 1918, much of which had also been used in earlier periods of the war.  The range of attire shown in the photograph is reflected in the models.

The figures come in sets of three:

GR72001:   RAF Pilots 1918 (seated pilot, bare headed pilot and pilot with arm raised)

GR72002:   RAF Pilots 1918 (officer with service cap, pilot with Sidcot suit and pilot with scarf)

GR72003:   RAF Pilots 1918 (pilot bare head, pilots with scarves)

Gunthwaite do not sell direct but the range is available online from:

Halifax Modellers World (very expensive for modellers outside the EU as they wanted GBP20 for postage)

Coastal Craft (link is broken)

Float-a-boat in Australia. I have emailed this supplier and they normally only stock the naval figures but will get in these sets on request.

I have some of Gunthwaite's naval figures and they are very nice.
Happy Modelling

Thanks James for the info on these great looking figures, with the large number of 1:72 scale builders we have on the forum I'm sure that these figures will prove very popular.

Thank you so much for posting these James!  I'm going to try to find a supplier that can get these to me here in the U.S. BTW, the link for Coastal Craft is easily fixable. Just go to: http://www.coastalcraftmodelsuk.com/  and you can find the Gunthwaite Miniatures from there. HTH!

Germania Figuren recently did some RFC figs, those combined with these and the Eduard figures ought to have me set for sone RFC figs. Now, to source some good French Air Service figures.  ;)

These a superb! I ought to get some as the three pilots that I have are probably bored of posing with different kites by now.  ;D

I emailed them and they are in stock. They'd just forgotten to update their website.
