I am new
« on: October 10, 2015, 11:46:14 PM »
Hi folks,
I am new to this forum and I would like to tell you something short about me.
I am 37 yo, I live in Italy and i am a modeller since childhood. After many years spent among boring jets and ww2 stuff I have started to get buff about ww1 modelling.
Now on the bench I got an Eduard Nieuport 17 in 1:48 scale. French marks is the choice I have made for this beauty.
Now a question....
How to create the cushion for the seat?
Or..makin it simple...is there any aftermark for that?
Thanks and compliments for your masterpieces.
Cheers
Simone

Welcome Simone!
I'm not sure I there are any aftermarket seat cushions made in 1/48 scale. If I were trying to make a seat cushion my first thought would be some 2 part epoxy putty. I have used Aves Apoxie Sculpt (link below) but any epoxy putty would work. The good thing about making your own is that you will know that the fit is correct and with the epoxy putty it takes a while to harden so you'll have time to make it exactly how you want. Also try searching the forum for what others have done for some ideas. Some of the members here are real masters of the art of modeling.

Hope this helps and good luck!
Chuck

Welcome aboard Simone, I'm sure you'll enjoy this very friendly and helpful site!
I think most members who make their own seat cushions tend to use miliput. I don't work in 1:48 so I can't tell you whether there are any aftermarket items available.

   Welcome to the Forum Simone.
I've had some luck doing seat cushions with putty and also using it on a thin styrene base and then molding it to shape. It's not difficult and if you start with several one will usually turn out well, the failures can be discarded.
Cheers,
Lance

Welcome aboard, Simone!  Glad you found us.  I'm looking forward to seeing your Nieuport.  Like most of the others, I use a two part putty for my seat cushions.  My preference is Citadel Blue and Yellow Green Stuff.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello, and welcome to the Forum. I use putty also when needed. We have a talented Forum member who has made beautiful cushions from the tabs on the plastic sprues that identify the letter of the parts.  Perhaps repeat your question in the Hints and tips for further detail. Looking forward to seeing your work.
