SPAD A.2- wing spars
« on: September 20, 2015, 01:46:46 AM »
Hello colleagues! Now I'm doing a model SPAD A2 and encountered difficulties. There is the question - is there somebody photo, where it would be seen the bottom of the fuselage of the aircraft. And if specifically, the location wing spar is interesting, because they were outside? Especially unclear to the rear spar.
Please help- work is not moving)))

this is an interesting question.although i have a couple of unbuilt models of this plane i havent thought of this yet. what references do you presently have? in spad 2 seaters of ww1 there are a few useful photos that together seem to give the answer to the question. one ,an inflight photo from underneath , seems to show that the are in between the 2 spars is wide open. it looks as though behind the rear spar(maybe) is a semi-circular void as well. even from the side plan view you can see that the lower wing sits below the fuselage and from the angle in this photo daylight can be seen toward the front. other photos show that the front spar seems to be in line with the front of the rear portion of the fuselage . imagine the front gunners pod(nacelle) is not there, the front face of the front spar is flush with the very front of the rear fuselage section.there is definately no fabric or wood in between the 2 spars its behind that i cant really tell and the 3 view drawings obscure this as the landing gear blocks exactly whats going on.furthermore i think the 3 views in the above book as well as my mini datafile hve it drawn wrongly as what they seem to show is that the rear spar should be seen as exposed and near the rear arm ov the landing gear but it seems to wrongly show the rear spar covered. i think the photo evidence disputes this.

heres a link i use for many aircraft. the first is some spad a2/a4 drawings. the second is a root menu that leads to a plethora of scale drawings for many types.

These links are, thank you. In general, surprisingly little information on the aircraft.

If today will, I will open the topic with the building - so it will be clearer.
