Junkers J.1

Okay, I feel confident posting this build so far. I was worried that I would start posting and bail again but I think this is far enough along that I can finish in the coming week or two.
Forgot to add spars to top center section. Hope it isnt going to cause problems.
Started wood with Tamiya flat flesh and then used burnt umber. When this dries I will go over with clear yellow.
Glued 2 .040" plastic rods together. Cut to approx size and then sanded the end into a wedge shape. Glued them to the inboard edges of the ailerons about .020 inch back from trailing edge. Added some scrap plastic inside and will fill with putty. Cut and sanded so it is a nice extension of the ailerons to fill the gap in the kit. I was going to use the side walls from the corrugated rad but could not get that to work. Unfortunately the pics look horrid, but here they are.
Looks like I need a touch up though, even though I did not see it live.
Let this all dry and add markings and then start assembling sub assemblies. In the meantime I need to work on the engine some more using Des' excelent guide. Feels good to get so far again and I'll be quite pleased to finish another.

Wonderful work, James! Yes, you are well on your way to completion. Some consider this bus ugly, I think it's beautiful. A magnificent, purposeful design.
Cheers,
Bud

You are doing a fantastic job so far James, your wood colours are excellent, looking forward to seeing more. I always considerd this to be an ugly aeroplane but it was one of the first Wingnut kits I built, I now love it.

Thanks everyone. I've enjoyed this and I like it enough I think I'll get another. I think one of the things I enjoy the most about these kits is trying to recreate wood in paint I'm happy you li

Great "woodwork", James, as is the interior detail, you've got a real winner on the way here! I think Bud's statement covers it well, beautiful, magnificent, purposeful design, and you are doing it justice.
Cheers,

From woodwork to painting it is a beauty! Clever method for fixing the aileron!

Hello gentlemen and ladies,
Beuatiful work and paint !! Bravo !
Be careful with the upper wing, it weights a lot.
Best regards.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the positive vibes.
On 3 legs. And still puttering away. Still need to do a touch up before I can gloss coat her ready for decals.

It's always nice to see a model on it's feet, you have done a great job with the painting.

Thanks very much.
I have have been moding the engine as per yours Des and have the holes drilled. Got the top wing gloss coated for decals. Went to a funeral today for one of my co workers who passed away last week and not feeling too interested in modeling. Maybe in a few days will get back to this. Just feeling a bit old right and tired right now.
