1/48 African Queen
« on: August 31, 2015, 10:04:07 AM »
Hello everyone, ok, ok, I know it's not an airplane, but it is a WW1 subject. During my research of this project, I was struck by a distinct generation disconnect. A survey of our children and the grandchildren revealed that no one under the age of forty had ever even heard of the movie!! One granddaughter at Oregon State did admit knowledge of Humphrey Bogart, however. I used the hull of a Revell tug boat reconfigured to a 1/48 likeness of the movie boat. I found that there were many misinterpretations in later restorations of the original boat. This model represents as it appeared during actual filming. Used lots of Grandtline RR stuff. Bogey and Katherine are modified RR figured. This was lots of fun. Thanks for looking..

 Pietro,
Outstanding project my friend. Love you figures too. In fact your version of Miss Hepburn looks better than the original. Oh my now I've gone and dated myself.

Fantastic representation of the 'African Queen' Pietro, I remember the original movie well, it is still a classic.

Delightful, Pietro! What a great subject and so well executed.

Everyone should see the African Queen....what a truly delightful classic, and funny, film.

Incidentally, not many people realize that the film was based on the book by none other than C.S. Forester, author of the wonderful Horatio Hornblower series of nautical novels.

Please keep the great build coming....they are all delightful!

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

A beautiful and evocative model - one of my favourite films also. How I wish John Houston had also directed that other C.S.Forester-based epic, The Pride and the Passion - I'm sure that he'd have made a far better film of The Gun than Stanley Kramer did.

Really clever and a great model of the vessel from the famous old film!

Thank you all very, very much. I can see that I need to become more "at one" with my Cannon D-50. I really miss being able to use my Mamiya medium format. No one wants to mess with 120 film anymore. When I checked into medium format digital, I realized I would have to have to sell my body parts!! Anyway, thanks again for the kind words...

Lovely. One proposal, if I may: Maybe you could add a bit of weathering to the anchor, as that doesn't look as used as the old Queen?

Beautiful subject and execution Pietro! ;D  Mr. Allnut would feel right at home onboard. ;)

A bit sad that younger folks are unaware of the rich film heritage from the mid-20th century.  As a teen in the 70s, I loved watching the old B&W films of Hollywood's golden era (and the subsequent color classics like The African Queen).

Now, you just need to build a 1/48 Koenigin Luise gunboat to complete the scene! ;D ;)

Regards,

Bob
