Best selection of paints for German aircraft .. who supplies them?

A stupid question I know for you experienced German aircraft modellers, But coming back into the hobby, I am a little lost about who supplies the best paints for painting German aircraft. I wish to use Acrylic paints. Any help would be gratefully received.

I use most time Misterkit, also Tamiya, Vallejo and Gunze. All are very good.

I must agree with Martin in total my friend. I'd add only Drooling Bulldog even if I haven't tried them myself yet. Take a look at Hellboys SSW D.III project he's used the DB paints for the red stained fuselage.Truly excellent work too.

Indeed, Gregory, Drooling Bulldog paints are excellent -- but they are lacquer.

I mainly stick with Gunze acrylics, they have a very good selection and if a different colour is needed they are easy to mix, just a tad of lacquer thinners allows them to spray very well but in most cases they spray straight from the bottle.

I agree with Martin on this one IF you are looking for pre mixed matches for German colors. If you are willing to match other brands then I use a lot of Valejo, Tamiya, Gunze etc. They all have there own qualities and uses.

Thanks for all your very helpful replies. I like the looks of Misterkit ready mixed colours and I think I'll buy those to try out. I did forget to mention that I will be airbrushing and having read some reviews on this brand of paint it seems good.

I did see that some users say to put a "retarder" in with the paint to stop it drying too quickly while airbrushing. Have any of you found this is needed, or will just normal thinning be enough?

Hi Mike!!!

I really enjoyed Misterkit paints and would still consider them as best If I didnt discover DB paints, although not acrylics they are amazing... my point is, if you are using Misterkit, be careful with base, I used Tamiya White base in order to keep it shades and ended up with wrinkles and craclings when putting clear cote afterwards... I dont recall using retarder as I dont really stop during airbrushing but they tend to dry rather quick so It might be worth to check it out if you are planning using it on big areas

Glad you mentioned MisterKit paints my old friend.Lovely product too. I too use Tamiya White as a base or primer under my MK painted projects. I've always thinned mine with Future. This has eliminated the need for further gloss coats,thus the problem with wrinkling cracking paint. My first experiences with MK paints was years ago when I was searching for the best paints for my 1/32 scale Regia Aeronautica projects . Nothing else I tried came close.

Well as I'm hooked on WNW kits and I'm about to start to build the Roland C.II. I have a project in mind to build the aircraft flown by "Rudi" Windisch. There are 3 that I know of at the moment that he flew and all can be made from the WNW kits. Happy times ahead and a lot of learning from you experts on this site.

My last primer was from Vallejo.
I thin MK only with water. You can see the effect on my Pfalz Dr.1 build. Brushed the first time the fuselage and wings.

I use Misterkit paints quite a bit and have always had good luck with
them.  I've used Tamiya fine primer or ModelMaster white primer
under the MK paints with no troubles.

Ernie, That was going to be my next question. What primers to use? I presume you use Tamiya's "rattle can", as I don't see one for airbrush use.
