Yes, thank God I didn't lift the decal. I have managed to do some touch up but it will never be the same. I also managed to re spray the offending parts of the Pfalz. That's the good news. The bad news is that the fuselage cross on the left side lifted when I removed the masking. All had been sealed with Future and a clear coat of Tamiya semi gloss. No problem on the right side  >:(

Rick,
It happens to all of us, I just mentioned much the same "stunt" on my Fee Build Thread. Like yours I got a bunch of CA on a wing by dragging it through a puddle of the stuff I was working with, in my case I'm fortunate that it's on the lower surface. Like yours as well it meant going all the way down to the plastic through ruined coats of primer, finish, several clear coats and weathering to remove it. I know you'll have it looking like the original in no time, just keep your sense of humour! ::)
Cheers,
Lance

I just read about your mishap. Damn annoying isn't it? I have touched up but will probably require one more light sanding and another re-spray!

Really annoying when this type of thing happens, no matter how careful we are there is always something that has to ruin our day. I'm sure with your talents the repair will not be noticeable.

Thats a crying shame. Do you need to replace the decals or can you do the repair safely? Let me know if you need some replacements.

 Rick,
Well my old friend I wont say this sucks as it seems a little too crude for my taste. But it certainly does draw a vacuum. I have no doubt you'll be able to make a seamless repair. Glad to see the decal appears intact ,saves hunting for a replacement.

Ah shame Rick,

I get at least one of those moments on every build.. Don't be disheartened though - it's a beautiful model.

Rick, I know your pain all too well.  Usually by the time I finish anything,
it looks like someone walked over it with glue shoes.  I know you
will recover from this little nasty.  Keep the faith, my friend. :D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Rick,

I have been lurking and quietly enjoying watching your builds for some time here.  Both aircraft look really lovely.  I am sorry to see the setback with the Salmson, but as others have said, I have high confidence in your ability to return it to show condition.

Great stuff as always!

Chris

Thanks for all of the support guys! I actually think the Salmson will be easier to repair than the Pfalz. Deciding right now if it is necessary to try and pull off the portions of the decal that didn't lift or if I can get away with sanding with micro mesh and then applying a new cross.  As for the Salmson decals I appreciate the offer but I have been able to mask it with silly putty and touch up around the eagle and dog. I am back on my work rotation for 4 days and wiill have time to step away and think about my next steps.

Amigo, knowing your skills, you'll soon have both kits in show winning condition.  I know how frustrating something like this can be, but we both know from experience that there is almost nothing in modeling that is irreparable.

Just a verbal update for now. I have finished the Pfalz. Some of the fix was not perfect but it is done! I now have the Salmson sitting on the bench again  8)
