As great as the Pfalz looks, I'm looking forward to a little update on the Salmson...  :P :-)

Thanks for the comment! As for the Salmson I am on my 3rd day of my 4 day rotation at work tonight so I should get some bench time Wed throughSaturday  8)

I have progressed on the painting of the Salmson. The only colors left to apply are the fabric brown color and black, for the uppers, and the beige/ecru on the unders. This is a teaser photo as I will take better shots once all of the initial paint is laid down. After that the post shading will be done.

Gorgeous paint work, Rick!  Did you paint over an aluminum base or did you mix aluminum in with the colors?  I can see a very subtle metallic sheen in there.  Lovely work.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Rick,

My latest post was about the Pfalz! Your Camo colours on the Salmson look very good, I very much like the soft look of it! Did you choose the WnW proposed mixture? Very nice!

Kind regards
Patrick

Thanks Bud. I did mix aluminum, actually a mixture of Aluminum and Grey per the WNW directions. After making the aluminum dope I added it to the colors more or less as directed by WNW. The macro photo shows more than the naked eye although it can be seen. It does grey down and lighten the basic colors for some difference between doped fabric and paint on metal. I just lack the black and a little touch up on the uppers now.

Rick,

Beautiful paint job. What did you use to mask the camo pattern?

Thanks Martin. Next up is masking ALL of the ribs on the Pfalz and Salmson :o I plan to use Tamiya smoke and then some oils for weathering. I also found some Testors washes that look interesting  8)

Mike, I use Silly Putty  ::) Just roll it up and place it in position. Never lifts paint and leaves no residue. I have a photo from my Older Nieuport 28 build I will try to locate to illustrate my method. Here is a link to the build:
