1/8 scale Fokker DVll cockpit
« on: July 26, 2015, 06:32:05 AM »
Hello everyone, here is a tongue-in-cheek project from last year. A few years ago, a fellow brought one of those Hasegawa DR-1 to the Seattle IPMS show. It was fantastic, he added many extra details, did numerous corrections and just did a beautiful build. But it did take up a lot table space. So I decided to just build a cockpit only. I drew inspiration from that incredible SE 5-a build on this forum. After much research of 1/1 scale DVlls, I made some drawings and set to work. This was a fun collaboration with my ever patient and very supportive wife, Barbara. The recipe called for all the usual ingredients: Evergreen Styrene, brass and aluminum tubing, real cloth and real wood. Barbara scanned some lozenge decal and then printed it on fine weave cloth. She also sewed the seatbelts to which I added my resin cast buckles and hardware. All the instruments are photo reductions of the real ones with scratch-built bezels and appropriate hook ups. The seat was made from sheet aluminum with cloth cover. We had a lot of fun with this one. Thanks for looking.

That is incredible workmanship Pietro, the detail you have incorporated into your model is absolutely amazing, it is as good as the real thing.

Fantastic work Pietro!
You and Barbara certainly make a great team.
I like your home made cloth printed lozenge, that turned out very nicely.
Well done all round!  :)

My oh my, Pietro, I too am at a loss for words. This is incredibly well done. What other gems do you have in your "tickle trunk" to show us?? We have an incredible inventory of talent here on our Forum, this work stands out amongst the very best, and I'll be referring back to it many times. Congratulations on a truly superb model.
Cheers,
Lance

This is so amazingly wonderful and that you and your wife collaborated on it is really a plus. IMHO, there is nothing tongue in cheek about it.....what a seriously fine example of model building at the highest level.

Only problem is that we now want you to finish the rest of the airplane!

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

I know what you did, Pietro.  You popped into some museum or restoration facility and photographed the real thing.  If that's not the case, then HOLY SH--!  Absolutely phenomenal work.  I'm saving these as reference photos for when I build my next D.VII.
Cheers,
Bud

Another one lost for words…..!!!! That is a truly incredible piece of modelling by both of you. I really do wonder how you people manage to do this sort of thing and with proper materials too. Heartiest congratulations on a mini-masterpiece.
