Rigging Difficulty Comparison?
« on: July 01, 2015, 03:46:04 AM »
Is the FE.2b appreciably harder to rig than the DH.2 (both kits WnW)?  :-\

Thanks for any input!

Mark,
I haven't build the FE.2 yet but, having looked at the details, I'd bet they are about the same degree of difficulty. The DH2 was a "busy" rigging project and from what I've seen both here and in the flesh the FEE looks to be one as well. The secret IMHO is to have a plan, a sequence that minimises conflict and/or collateral damage. The FEE being slightly larger may make her a bit easier, but no guarantees!
Cheers,
Lance

The DH.2 has a rigging guide here  http://bobsbuckles.co.uk/dh.2-rigging-guide.html that is a great help, but you can use it to plan for the FEE as well!

simply do both and lett us know.. and good luck.

All biplanes with rigging have a certain degree of difficulty, but if the rigging is approached in a methodical manner there will be no issues what so ever. Thorough planning and a sequential process will see the rigging fall into place quite easily regardless of how complex it may appear.

I completely agree with all the above. Bob's rigging guide is a must, but my single one suggestion is to proceede from inside to outside, when I understood this it made the whole process much easier  ;)

I haven't built the DH2 yet but I made the Fee a few years back.

The rigging certainly looks daunting, but it is far from it in reality.

If you have rigged other types before, you will have your preferred method of attaching the lines, use of eyelets/turnbuckles etc.  With the Fee, you just simply apply the same techniques, but there is just a damned sight more of it!

The key thing I found, was to take plenty of time to study the rigging diagram in the instructions, and also reference pics (including builds on here) to further illustrate line routes, connections etc.  Once you have that in mind, the rigging is relatively easy.

The tailplane/rudder assembly can be partially rigged standalone, as can the booms.  As others have said, work from inside to outside.

Plus with the Fee the gap between upper and lower wings is quite big, so there is plenty of room to handle the rigging.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the great info on rigging these two bips. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions once I get into it (FE.2b).
