Barcelona
« on: May 08, 2015, 07:08:13 AM »
Ena and I are spending a few days in one of our favourite cities, Barcelona, and our son, David, and his fiancée are staying in the same hotel. Despite yesterday being Ena's birthday she was very happy for David and I to buy a couple of the cheapest tickets to go and watch the European Cup semi-final, first leg match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich at the amazing stadium here, with 95,000 others.

Now, rugby union and cricket were my sports of choice as a player, but I do enjoy the ups and downs of supporting my home city team, Birmingham City. That said, this was something else. What a match! That  man Lionel Messi was out of this world, scoring two superb goals and making a third. The city was buzzing.

On a more mundane note, I've walked around many streets, but there's no sign yet of a model shop...

Best wishes
Nigel

No, but brothels abound.  At least they did 40 years ago when I last visited.  You must check out Tio Tom's if it's still there.  Or maybe not.
Cheers,
Bud

There was a model shop at the top end of Las Ramblas, just off to the left of the square on a side street.

Thanks, all.

Things are proving very enjoyable here and, Dave, I just happened to be in the area you mentioned this afternoon. Lots of vintage rock vinyl etc and music shops but no sign yet of a model shop. It's our last day tomorrow, so I'll have to try harder!

Best wishes

Hi Nigel, years ago on my stay in Barcelona I found only one model shop: Jordi Rubio ,somewhere in the C.Corsega,08025 Barcelona.
Mostly 1:35 military stuff,I think he's specialiced on turned metal gun barrels...not open on sunday ,anyway.
You better go visit the Asador Aranja for some roasted lamb and hierbas!Have you seen the Sagrada familia cathedral?

I have to admit defeat! We're now back in Toulouse waiting for the train to Limoges without having seen a single model shop in Barcelona; nor even a kit - Airfix, Tamiya, Revell etc etc anywhere. Come on you marketing departments, there must be opportunities there.

Thanks for the info about Jordi Rubio, malaula. Sadly there was no time to explore further.  We did get to see the Sagrada Familia again, which was good since it was an opportunity to catch up on the work done in the ten years since our last visit. We also ventured out on the train to places like Montserrat and Sitges. Very nice too.

Oh well, there's an SE5a crying out for attention and a little Airfix Defiant just awaiting a propeller, an undercarriage, canopy and turret on the "workbench" back home.

Best wishes
Nigel
