Fokker D.VII engine panel interior color
« on: July 01, 2012, 01:58:07 PM »
As the title suggests, I'm trying to figure out what the engine panel interiors looked like on the D.VII; bare metal (steel?), or painted. If painted, what color?

Thanks a bunch,
Kevin

i think i recall reading that they were painted german interior grey green like most of the other german types. but bare aluminum would seem logical too.

Thanks Albie. I asked the same question elsewhere, and someone there said they thought probably bare aluminum. I'm building a D.VII with the upper panels removed, making the side panel interiors somewhat more visible, so I though I'd try to make them look reasonably correct. (Contest model and all.)

Maybe this is of use.

Also, the D.VII at NASM is shown with one engine cover off, so maybe some clues to be had there.

My hunch is that this might vary by Mfr, though.

I see that panel is bare, can we assume the others are as well?

I would be more comfortable with the word "presume."  ;) But yeah, would seem to make sense that if the firewall wasn't painted the insides of the engine cowling wouldn't be, either.

I'm hardly an expert though. Somebody like Mikeal Carlson or Achim Engels would probably know for sure...

Well it's a moot point now, I already painted it aluminum, though I now believe green is probably correct. Good to know when I begin my WNW kits, (assuming I ever get them).

Based on the info in this thread (as well as others), I've decided that gray/green is the way to go. Thanks for all the input fellas. This information will come in mighty handy when I tackle the WNW kit.
