"Splotches were painted following the hints and tips on our website. A torn piece of sponge was held in self-closing tweezers and used to blot Tamiya acrylic paint (mixed with Tamiya Retarder to slow the drying time) onto the surface. I wasn't completely successful in achieving the matt blotches on gloss wing surface I wanted and may go back and apply blotches of matt varnish over them"

I suspected that was how he did it so thanks for the confirmation. He did a splendid job.
