Our IPMS Club finished its Build Same Kit competition for the WNW Albatros this evening. Richard built this camouflaged DV and had it on display. I expect it will appear on their website soon

Rigged with EZ line, painted turnbuckles. I particularly liked the painting of his cockpit padding and the rusted axle

Impressive modelling indeed. Small splotch camo schemes can be challenging to replicate, so I'm also interested in hearing how he accomplished it. I have a similar scheme in mind for Tamiya's Heinkel 219 Uhu when I take a break from rigged aeroplanes. It's that camo scheme that gives me pause.

Another of the WNW staffers, Dean Reynolds, is also an IPMS club member and had this creative undead Albatros that combined parts from various WNW kits. See which kits he raided to put this together

Impressive modelling indeed. Small splotch camo schemes can be challenging to replicate, so I'm also interested in hearing how he accomplished it. I have a similar scheme in mind for Tamiya's Heinkel 219 Uhu when I take a break from rigged aeroplanes. It's that camo scheme that gives me pause.

"Splotches were painted following the hints and tips on our website. A torn piece of sponge was held in self-closing tweezers and used to blot Tamiya acrylic paint (mixed with Tamiya Retarder to slow the drying time) onto the surface. I wasn't completely successful in achieving the matt blotches on gloss wing surface I wanted and may go back and apply blotches of matt varnish over them"

Well it's hard to get that amateur/professional look of field applied camo and markings, sometimes what looks right isnt and vice versa, Richard has carried it off just right.
The axle mod too, nice and neatly done.
The Undead albi well....... what a kit bash, great when you have access to so many... ummmm parts ::) ;D Great imagination I have to say.

Wow thanks for sharing the works of Richard and Dean with us my old friend. Look s like your IPMS Club has some awesomely talented members. Richards D.V has the absolute best field applied camouflage replication I've seen anywhere. Bravo well done Richard.
Highly imaginative works from Dean too. I must admit though at first glance I wasn't sure certain of what to make this project. But the more I studied the photos the more I liked the project. A tip of the hat to Dean for the most imaginative Albatros ever. James next time you see Dean please ask him what he calls this aircraft, Albatros D. Vz perhaps.

I suspected that was how he did it so thanks for the confirmation. He did a splendid job.
