I recently saw a post by a friend on another forum about some Wingnut Wings kits and after reading several nice online builds I had to order some myself.  Well today I got my first order and am hooked!  I have always liked airplanes but have not built any kits since I was in elementary school.  Most of my hobby stuff is around racing and autos.  I look forward to getting started on some builds and hopefully posting them on here.  The biggest hurdle I should have is learning how to do wood grain.

Welcome to what I think is a wonderful forum, Nic. In terms of doing wood grain, you'll find some outstanding examples here and people happy to share their approaches.

Hi Nic , welcome to the forums ! Wood graining isn't all that hard once you get the hang of it . Lot's of different methods to try and use what works best for you . Any questions just ask , the guy's are very very friendly and helpful !

Which kit's did you get ?

I got the Fokker D.VIIF, DH9a, DH.2, and the early Felixstowe.  I will probably be placing a second order this week for some other items.  These are truly well done kits.  I will probably start with one of the Fokker kits.  Right now I am reworking my bench and going through the instructions to see if I need to buy any more paint.

I've been through Buchannon a couple of times on the way to KY and Ohio.  I'm in Princeton.  Do you know of any hobby shows coming up?

No shows here centrally. I think there was one in Charleston bi-yearly but I usually go to Ohio or Virginia shows when I can get time off from work.

That's what I thought.  I have been to a few IPMS shows, but the majority I have been to are auto only shows.  A lot of them are dwindling down.  Toledo is almost 1/4 the size it was over 10 years ago.  Hopefully I can find a few shows this year to go to.

I placed my second order from WnW earlier.  Had to get the RNAS Pup, Fokker D.VIIF (with Mercedes engine to make the Lothar von Richthofen Fok version), Fokker D.EIII, Pflaz D.III, Pflaz D.XII, and the Albatros D.Va.  Still a little undecided which to start first.

    Welcome to the Hobby and the best Forum for the topic, you'll really enjoy being here! Consider starting with the Pup; simple design, lots of choice in schemes, and average rigging requirement. If you feel a candidate from the opposite side of the fence is required I'd strongly recommend the Pfalz D.III, a wonderful little Kit.

Thanks for the input Lance.  I just got done looking through your DH.2 build.  Beautiful build!  That is my favorite aircraft of all time so I will have to build it at some point.  I plan on getting the early Fee, a Hanover, and probably the Snipe next time I place an order, but this is enough for now, lol.  Thanks again to everyone for the nice welcome!
