Sopwith Pup Wing Ribs Question
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:45:02 PM »
Hi,

I have a question about the mini wing ribs on the wing's leading edges of the Sopwith Pup. I'm sure one of you can clear up my confusion.

I've found conflicting reference to how the mini riblets between the full ribs were constructed. In photos of the actual wings without the covering, one plane has the small ribs and caps on the top and bottom of the wing. Another plane has just the thin cap strips on the top only. Looking at the covered Pup I can see these ribs poking through the top fabric but not the bottom. This leads me to believe there were only cap strips on the top as in the second example.

Anyone know which version is correct?

Here's some pics to help explain:

Thanks for any help,
George

Is it a matter of which subcontractor built the aircraft which the replica is patterned after?

Well, I guess I can take some artistic license here. I'll go with the second option since the ribs don't seem to show on the underside.
