Albatros Dr.II 1/48 scale
« on: February 15, 2015, 03:37:28 PM »

This is a project I've been dreaming of for years, but just didn't have the nerve to simply jump in and start it.  It all began with the acquisition of Albatros Productions excellent Datafile Special on Albatros Experimental Aircraft.

I figure now's the time.  Although I still have a couple projects in the works, I'll squeeze this one in when I can.  I think all of our new paper model members have provided me with the impetus to finally get it going.  This will be a plastic model, but the idea came from a paper model download I found online: http://www.paperinside.com/download/1/albatrosDrII-1_48.pdf

I started by printing the download, cutting out the parts and pasting them on the appropriate thicknesses of Evergreen sheet styrene.

On the right side of the screen, you'll see that I've assembled the basic cockpit tub.  I'll add detail and paint it over the next few days while I finish up my last Fokker D.VII for a while.  I also plan on participating in the seaplane group build, so I'll work on this one intermittently.  Stay tuned.
Cheers,
Bud

Very interesting subject Bud, and a good idea with printing the paper model then transferring to styrene, looking forward to seeing how this one comes together.

An interesting hybrid paper, plastic approach. I'll be watching to see how this develops. I'm all for using different materials for their unique strengths and qualities.

Bud, this is a really cool project!  Brilliant idea of transferring
the paper to plastic.  Intermittent or not, this is one project
I won't be missing, my friend. ;D

Cheer,
Ernie :)

This I want to see. I've downloaded many card models over the last few years with this sort of thing in mind, but never had the resolve to push past the dreaming stage.

Thanks for your interest and support, guys!  Really not so sure exactly how to proceed, but I will anyway.  I'll be leaning heavily on our new friends from the paper community for advise and hopefully won't make a pest of myself.
Hope to get a little interior work done this week.
Cheers,
Bud
