fokker triplane underwing cross question
« on: February 11, 2015, 01:51:14 PM »
Hello all! I am currently working on a 1/48 eduard fokker triplane hangar queen im trying to finish up. Ive decided to use the kit decals for Hans Weiss. Ive got the streaking about wrapped up and have masked to get the base coat of white sprayed. Im planning on applying some early iron cross decals then overspraying them to give a ghost image under the balkenkreuz.

Im not sure yet how im going to portray the crosses on the undersides of the lower wing. The only picture I know of of Weiss's machine doesnt clearly show them, so there is no wrong answer. I understand the iron crosses were applied to areas of CDL here. does any know how such areas were treated when the crosses got revised? Ive noticed a couple pictures of other Dr.Is with different  treatments but I was wondering what opinions experiences or observations you all might have.

The few shots I've found seem to show a white border around the cross so can onlt assume that they painted it out in white and squared it up. Some it would seem had the CDL overpainted with blue/turquoise or white.

As you say if you have no evidence either way then the choice is yours. ;)

Keith, thanks for your reply! I should just take path of least resistance and have the balkenkreuz on a white field, Im sure Weiss wouldnt have minded. Apparently some part of me just wants it to be more complicated  ::)
