Wingnut Wings...eat your heart out!
« on: June 09, 2012, 06:31:44 AM »
My latest acquisition - the new LEGO Sopwith Camel!  And before you snicker...note that it has twice the number of parts as a WNW Gotha, and it has working controls!  ;)

I'll post more photos once construction commences.

Cheers,
Eric

It should have twice the parts - its twice the price of a WNW Pup!!  ;) If it only came with a minifig Roy Brown....

I've been whining about the lack of a decent 1:32 Camel; is this my dream come true or a different scale?!?! ::)

Little bit of sanding needed for those rib tapes...!   ;D
Cheers!

OK, it's time to present the build.

That's a lot of pieces!  And not a one needing removed from sprue, sanded, filed, filled, etc.   :)

First step...organize!

No aftermarket needed here!  Complete with working control stick.

Nice, simple rigging.

This says it all..

Upper wing ready to mount.  No jig required.

Undercarriage has working suspension!

Fuselage takes shape.

Engine and prop.  No woodgrain effect needed.   :)

All done!  Only took two days, with my wife's help.   ;D

Thank you for allowing me to share this little departure from our usual models.
I have to say it was a blast to build!  The thought and engineering that went into the model design is truly amazing.

Cheers,
Eric

Eric,
That is pretty Cool!! I'm going to keep my eye out for one
of those. Are there any more in the series?

Thanks Jim!  They are only available from LEGO stores or their online shop but I'm sure some will show up on eBay, if they haven't already, but probably at inflated prices.

No, this is the first at this level of complexity.  They had another Camel as well as a Fokker Dr.1 but were simpler kits and now command crazy prices as they're OOP.

I had to get one of these too :D I was surprised at the size- it's a big model once complete!
Nice details like the wicker seat (made from window pieces), rib tape (slightly chuncky admittedly!), and of course working controls :)
