Salmson 2-A2 (1/32, Wingnut Wings)
« on: December 14, 2014, 06:37:20 AM »
Two months and one day were necessary to compete this build. I used the WNW kit 32038 Salmson 2-A2 / Otsu 1 but the USAS version would do as well. The Polish markings are from Pheon Model decal set, given to me by Rowan - many thanks my friend for making it possible, and especially for your difficult decision to include this very unusual colour scheme in your offer.

The model represents one of Polish Salmsons brought to Poland by Gen. Józef Haller army which incorporated three fully equipped Salmson squadrons. This one is from Sal 582 which was then renamed as 1 Recco Squadron and served in the first half of 1920 at the front of the Polish-Soviet war. This particular plane was apparently damaged during a forced landing with u/c destroyed as well as the wing tips and the propeller. More details are missing. The characteristic thing which brought my attention to it was the nickname "Winiuś" (it may mean "someone fond of wine") and the red (?) devil emblem which is the heritage from its French times. Enjoy.

Thank you very much, Lady and Gentlemen. You seem to like this model more than I do.
Honestly speaking, I was never fully convinced to it. Starting with the mere purchase, I was not sure at all that I wanted it. Then building it was quite pleasant, it is one more gem from the WNW production line, but for me, something was always lacking here, a sort of the spirit of the aircraft I usually feel during the construction. Maybe it is this unusual for WW1 standards engine configuration, I cannot explain it better but I continually had doubts. It was probably only the fact, that I could complete it in Polish markings, that kept me going on. Anyway, here it is and I am glad you like it.  :)
