Zeppelin Top side gun positions.....
« on: December 12, 2014, 04:16:09 AM »
OK, gents....tossing around ideas and continuing to find things of interest and more possibilities for dioramas/vignettes.

I just came across this:

Is this indeed a legit image shot in WWI? IT all looks fine except for the crewmen who look rather modern. Any idea what type of craft this is?

And another by Herr Schwormstädt:

This scene is immensely doable as a vignette and if I can use the first photo as a reference for the structure, I will be good to go.

Any further thoughts or info greatly appreciated.

I have tracked down copies of Ray Rimell's first Zeppelin book but I am afraid the hobby kitty was spent on the Felixstowe! However, I have put in a word with Mrs. Santa.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

I plan to as soon as the Christmas shopping is done.  Just trying to gather ideas while I have a few days off.

On the cover ,of the latest Albatros Zeppelin datafile, there is a illustration of a Siemens Schuckert glider bomb. A 1/48th scale kit of this glider bomb is available from Grey Matter Figures.

OK, gents, any and all literature concerning Zeppelins that seems to apply to this specific project is now on order.

In the meantime, if someone can help me identify the guns shown in the photo I would appreciate the help, as I want to order same from whomever.

I am still very much a newcomer to WWI aviation model building and have neither the time, nor the funds, to amass a full blown research collection such as some of you more lofty souls have.  I do sincerely appreciate the help from those of you who've answered my queries re: these Zeppelin diorama ideas, as well as those on the RNAS Pup, and would like to think that I've made the most of the help you've given.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

The machine guns in the top photo in this thread appear to be Parabellum MG 14, lots of detail pics available here on the forum; WNW includes these with many kits and Master makes excellent replacement barrels for them.

Note the later MG14/17 has a slimmer barrel and other differences.

The guns in the painting do not look particularly accurate to me...

Ok, Bo, thanks very much. The help is appreciated. I did a lot of looking and comparing and I am happy that you have confirmed my speculation.

A I have several WnW kits that appear to have Parabellums as an option, I will go ahead and get the master barrels to accompany them.

I have ordered several figures including some from Kellerkind as well as the Steve Warrilow Fee in Flight pair. Conversion will be the order of the day but these are well sculpted figures that will serve as a fine basis. Not the best time of year to be anxiously awaiting things in the mail but I am finally back to my JAAS Pup and a lot of sketching for the Zeppelin project is in order.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael
