Roden 1/32 Nieuport 24
« on: December 08, 2014, 03:14:00 AM »
Hello all,

I promise, this will be my last Nieuport for long!

The scheme I have choosen is the one shown on the box. N3987 flown by S. Lt. Herisson 11 victories Escadrille N.75 Aviation Militaire 1917

First I painted and assembled the engine

Painting of the side panels. The wooden ribs are painted.

The interior is assembled by tiny parts, and all must be fixed on one side of the fuselage and hoping for a good similarity when the fuselage is closed.

The pilot's seat was flat and needed to be bended, and needs to be glued on the cushion (no board under it). I added a piece of styrene on the bottom of the cushion to have more surface to glue on.

The fuselage halves are glued. Sometimes it is such a shame having to close and hide the major part of the interior. In this case it was a blessing for me!

The instrument bar needs to be fixed yet; before closing the cockpit cowling.

Thank you for passing by!

Kind regards
Patrick

Patrick,
I will be happy to watch all of the Lovely Nieuport builds you want to do! You are off to a terrific start. Very clean work, and you might be the only Modeler to date to get that seat back bent without breaking! Your linen and wood colors are looking beautiful !!

Patrick,

Your off to a flying start - well done on bending the seat back without breaking - no easy task!

Watch out (later in the build) for the interplane strut fit - mine ended way, way off with the upper wing/lower wing so ended it ended up in the bin .............

Good luck with the rest of the build.

Dave

Hello Rick and Dave,

Thank you so much for your very appreciated comments!

Rick:   Thank you for your continued support my friend, ever since I began modeling last year. I bended the seat over different bottle caps and other things with smaller and smaller diameter, taped and held them there for some time. Maybe the fact that I first glued a brass tube on the seat when it was still flat did help?

Dave:  Thank you for your support and warning about the interplane struts! This is one (of many) of my weak points. Maybe it had something to do with the dihedral of the lower wings that the Nieuports had. Were your struts too short or too long? Or what was exactely your problem if I may ask Dave?

Kind regards
Patrick

Lovely work Patrick!  The cockpit looks great.  You are doing a much better job on your interior than I did on my Ni.27.  Your detailed log will be a great guide for my future Roden Nieuport builds! :D  Thanks!

Regards,

Bob

Hello Bob, Martin, Terri and Lance,

Thank you all for your kind comments. I appreciate it tremendously and it certainly keeps me going! I must admit that Roden has made better kits than this one. Time will tell. It will be very hard though to equal what Jean (MS406) achieved with it. Thank you again!

Kind regards
Patrick

My friend Patrick, you are already making great progress with the
build.  Super job of making the flat seat into a curved one.  Not an
easy feat without breaking it.  Your cockpit really has that Nieuport
aura. Your instruments are first rate as well.  Good work, Patrick!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thank you so much Ernie my friend for your comments, kind as always. It seems that in bending the seat I was quite lucky regarding all the comments about it! Remember it was you who teached me how to make instruments!  ;)

Kind regards my friend
