Hello from Edmonton, Alberta!
« on: December 04, 2014, 05:17:01 AM »
Hi all,

My name is Alex, I'm 29 years old, and currently living in Edmonton, Alberta (but moving back to my hometown of Chicago this January). I'm very happy to have found this great forum. I'm just getting started in model building. I tried it as a kid but didn't have the patience for it. Hopefully, now that I'm older, it will be a different story.  :P

I would like to eventually try all types of model building -- plastic models of tanks, aircraft, and ships; wooden models of ships and aircraft; model railroading -- but I would like to focus especially on plastic models of WWI aircraft. I think they are especially beautiful (especially the WNW models) and offer a pleasant challenge. I've been really enjoying looking at the photos of builds and completed models on this forum and have decided to join the community.
Cheers,
Alex L.

Thank you all for all of your warm welcomes!

I am currently working on some models I have picked up during my time in Edmonton: Revell Santa Maria, Monogram M48A2 Patton Tank, and the Revell USS Missouri. I have already completed the Revell Viking Ship (my first ever completed model kit). Back in Chicago, I have a Revell Albatross kit waiting for me. I'm going to build some practice kits first of WWI aircraft before I get into what has really captivated me: the Wingnut Wings editions. Once I feel a little more confident in my rudimentary modeling skills, I'll post up some build logs  :P
Cheers,
Alex L.

Hi and welcome.

I think you'll find that building the WNW kits is easier than the (so called) beginner kits.  The WNW kits are so well engineered that everything fits where it belongs and you don't have to mess around getting things, like struts, lined up.

Not to mention, they're big enough to see.

Alex,
Wishing you a warm welcome from up the road in Cold Lake would be a little unrealistic given the past week's winter blast we've both enjoyed! Many, if not most of our membership enjoy models outside the WWI Aircraft genre and that's probably healthy from the enjoyment of the hobby perspective. You've chosen an excellent Forum to participate in and I know you'll enjoy it here!
Cheers, and welcome aboard! :)
