Question on a book
« on: December 01, 2014, 03:19:46 AM »
I just won a book on ebay and hope it was worthwhile. It is Air Aces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire 1914-18 - O'Connor  I had seen here about a very good book on the Austro-Hungarian airforce and thought this was the same one. Anyways if anyone has it could you let me know if it is a good book? Thanks in advance.
James

Not only good, it is exceptional.
A must, it completes the other big book of the late dr- O'Connor.
Worth more than 100 pounds

It is a good book. At the time it was originally published, it was one of the few books published in English on the subject. The color profiles should be regarded with caution as more recent information regarding A-H colors and finishes has rendered them suspect. My biggest criticism is the authors near reverential 'hero worship' treatment of the aces bios, but I think the narratives are historically accurate.

It's a good book, but I think it may be getting confused with Austro Hungarian Army Aircraft of WWI.

The former is worth around £40 & is quite widely available. The latter is fairly rare and upwards of around £150 normally, being the definitive work on the subject.

Not at all, James.  An exceptional book, well worth the 73 quid.

well worth the 73 pounds, now you need the companion, the other one they spoke of "austro hungarian army aircraft of world war one". its about twice the size and twice the price i'm afraid but with those two tomes you are in possesion of the vast majority of knowledge on the subject. i actually have one for sale if you are interested.
