Looking for 1/32 Nieuports

I see that Sprue Bros is having a Holiday sale and would like to add some form of Nieuport to my stash.

Problem is, the only WWI 1/32 kits I am familiar with are those from WnW.  I'm worried about going into "quality shock".

How 'bout the Nieuport kits from Roden or the Special Hobby Nieuport 11?

I am quite happy with both the Roden Nieuports and the Special Hobby offerings.

The N28 from Roden is a very nice kit (IMHO) - one of their best. There have been a couple of build logs on this site that give a good overview of what to expect. The later N24/27 are not bad either but the moulding and detail is a little softer than their earlier kits.

I have no qualms recommending any of these, especially if you can get them on the cheap via eBay or holiday sales.

I agree with all of this post! I also have a Special Hobby Nieuport 16 in the stash. No it is not WNW but... It looks to build up nicely with some work. There is also a build log somewhere on the site that was /is in progress.

Michael, adding to Rick's answer, I am working on a Special Hobby Nieuport 11,
which is not a bad kit at all.  As said previously, not WnW, but a pretty good kit.

It seems like all of the Roden kits are very buildable, if one takes the time. So far, I've finished one Dr.I, and it came out OK, in my opinion. I currently have the Nieuport 24 bis for sale in the trader area, if interested.

            Until this week, I've only had 1/72nd kits in my stash, build pile, etc. I am a man of discerning taste and manner.    I have a real fetish for the Nieuport fighters. (See that discerning taste bit above.)  I do not own, much less have never built, the 1/32nd kit of the Nie.17 (Is it Hobbycraft that makes that?), but there are at least a couple of build threads going on down below in the build section where you can see the pluses and minuses of that kit. Over the years I've seen people point out the kit's flaws, etc. As others have said, it's NOT a WNW kit.

I keep hoping another manufacturer will pick up the idea of making a better one, but it might not ever happen.

And sadly almost every poster here of late regarding that set has remarked about how disappointed they were with its quality. Evidently their quality control leaves something to be desired.

I was thinking of getting the Nie.17 kit and this set, but after reading some of the posts, I've decided against it for myself. Your mileage may vary or course. To each his own!

I'd not heard anything like that. The creator of the master is a well known chap on another forum where I am a moderator. The original master was gorgeous, it's a shame if the cast versions aren't up to par.

Warren is right, I can't recall a single purchaser of these items on here being overly satisfied with the quality of the items received.

The bits I bought were good for landfill, the detail was so soft I think it was cast from Ben & Jerrys. I wouldn't buy from them again.

Back to the OP. I'd recommend the Academy Nieuport 17. It builds up into a good representation for a relatively low cost. A bit of time scratch building cockpit details will enhance the model no end.

While I have no experience with that kit, I did have the Special Hobby 11 and 16, and they seemed OK, sort of "Rodenish".
