Excuse me, but is this where the WWI modelers hang out?
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:27:57 AM »
New to the forum.  I am an armor modeler who challenged a friend to a WNW Albatross DV build.  Although I have a lot of aircraft modeling in my distant past, I'm a little intimedated looking at the kit.  I am trying to learn as much as I can about WWI aircraft modeling before taking the leap.

I am in Racine, WI

Bo says,

I have almost finished a WNW Albatros (hears chuckling from the peanut gallery).
While looking around the site I have found other modelers speaking of your epic build.  Haven't found it yet but I will look for it.

What part of the great state of Cheese are you from?

Welcome aboard, David!  You found the absolute best WWI aircraft forum on the planet.  Lots of great Albatros builds here, but don't look to Bo's build as a guide.  You'll go utterly insane.  Unless, of course, you already are, in which case his build is the best guide to building an Albatros available anywhere.
Cheers,
Bud

Welcome David.

Here's a great place to find what and who you need to know to help with your first and hopefully not last build. But please don't feel you have to emulate Bo's oddessey with his Albie. ;D

Welcome aboard David from the north shore of Lake Ontario. I'm an armour modeller too but since I started building these rigged wonders four years ago, I'm a bit bewildered as to what I am now. My out of control stash tells me one thing but my bench is telling me something else. Once you rig one of these birds you'll be hooked.

Cheers,

Chris

Sorry, couldn't resist a reaction here. First of all David: I do agree that the link contains the most awesome and impressive build on this forum (for me at least), although there is a contestant with a D.VII build which seems to be able to fly if we get a miniature pilot inside.
But there must be a mistake about the location ;) : Barneveld is not about cheese, but famous for poultry and eggs and as far as I know is not destroyed by a tornado. I remember about two years ago sitting in a plane with a group from Australia who were going to visit Barneveld to have look at the chickens there.

regards,
Ivo

P.S. Still haven't read the entire D..VII build. I am having difficulties in catching up.
