DFW C.V (Av) 287/18
« on: November 13, 2014, 01:32:22 AM »
Friends,

following my last Roden kits, I wanted to built something "easier", for a change. The kit itself is well known (that's the reason why I decided to skip the screenshot of the box).

The aircraft I want to build is the "butterfly" scheme, that will be an interesting challenge due to the huge amount of weathering needed.

The interior is nearly finished:

As you know, the pilot used to sit on the fuel tank, with the reserve tank in his back. A solution I wouldn't have liked too much. Using the hairspray-technique, I tried to replicate scratches (and someday I will be able to make photos that would show the areas I am talking about in sufficient quality)

Anyway. Here is the pilot's office:

The tiny amount of work still to be done , aka the observer's office:

Still some items to paint. I really like the Eisfeld flare pistol.

This is the main actor (as always, I will try to tell a story):

And this is the reason, why I am progressing very slowly: My assistents have to check every single step. Very gelpful, all three of them.

Stefan

edit: broken link to observer's office fixed.

Keep that cat away. Moggies and models DON'T mix. Ask me how I know!

Nice work. I love the dog's polka dot bandana. I have to agree with andyw's comment regarding cats and models. I think cats view models as irresistible cat toys.

Very nicely done Stefan, I finished my DFW not long ago so will be following your build closely.

Very nice start, Stefan.  The colour scheme you chose will look great.
I really like what you have done with the cockpit.  Nice wood work!
You can't help but like dog and his bandana.  I'm sure your assistants
approve. ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

This will be fun to follow. I look forward to seeing how you tackle the weathering. Judging by the look of the interior I'd say the entire build will be a pleasure to follow.

Cheers from NYC, Michael

Thank you all for your encouragement.

i know, and i want to try to show something you left away on your build (radiator shutter linkage). Did you have problems in attaching the lower button part (the one where you could drill a large hole for the large camera, if you dared to, L13 i think)?

The cats refuse to go away - they are not too scared of the little doggie.

So,

the fuselage is closed and I have to report something weird:

1. I have the impression that the instructions were finished in a rush (or maybe I was expecting too much after tackling the Roden kits) - in the cockpit there are things not mentioned, when they should be. On the instrument panel there is a switch to be added (at least Des did so, and I followed duly) - the opening for that switch is already drilled out, but not mentioned. Not a major issue, but not the only one (albeit the only one that comes to my mind just now, unfortunately)

2. In my kit the after cabane struts were broken on the sprues. That's the same issue that Bertl already reported (in my case the landing gear was okay). I think it may be an issue of fitting too many parts into that box. As you all know, that box is really cramped. It could be fixed, but was surprising.

3. The lower bottom part (L13), that is to be glued between the two fuselage halves, is 1mm too long. That is not a mistake coming from some kind of shitty modelling from my side, as the cutout for L13 is already prepared on the fuselage parts. You are supposed to simply glue L13 into the opening. Again, not a major issue, but again a surprise.

As of today, I was too lazy for taking photos. There isn't so much to be seen, anyway.

Stefan
