Phonix Type "A" Flying Boat (1/72nd Joystick)
« on: October 13, 2014, 11:51:30 AM »
Here it is...I added the barrels, the windscreen, made a radiator and piping (fictitious connections but close), put on all the control horns and rigged it as well as put in control wires.  These, too, are made up and based on other flying boats of the period (where they go into the fuselage etc. as well as aileron connections) but there is little info on this neat little bird so this is my best guess.

I also had to scratch the tip floats as they were way too skinny as supplied.  They were easy to make, though!

A friend from Denmark is sending along rudder markings, but I still couldn't wait to post it  ;D

Thanks for looking and all the encouragement along the way.

Dan

This turned out absolutely amazing Dan, you have done a superb job with the construction and painting of this kit and the rigging on such a small scale model is incredible, congratulations on a job very well done.

As Des said, amazing. If I hadn't read your construction article, I wouldn't believe that this is a Vacu model.

A model thrives on its overall impression and not on that every little disagreement over the original is hyped up as a disaster

What a beauty Dan!  I want one. ;D. You have created a gorgeous model of a very interesting seaplane.  Outstanding result!

Cheers and huzzas,

Hard to believe that this is a vacuform. You have given me an idea for a scratch build though as this is another of those interesting pushers. Just need to find a decent set of plans now.

Thanks, everyone.  Humbled to be sure especially considering the caliber of modelers you all represent.  ;)

Now I need to make a Hansa or some other neat flying boat.  Maybe a two seater next time.  This kit was a fun build and also stretches your skills a bit.  The end result does look neat on the shelf...and colorful too!

Kind regards to you all...Dan

Wonderful to see this bird fly again! Thanks Dan for building vac's,I have always loved the challenge they present, you have to be a little artisan to realize a jem from a sheet of plastic and your doing that apace! The pheonix has come out a treat! Here is a great guide to the good bad and the ugly of WW1 vac'shttp://www.wwi-models.org/misc/vacs.html Cant wait to see your next vac!

Thanks for all the comments and interest in this little vac.  A friend in Denmark just sent me some crown rudder markings.  So here are two shots with it finally REALLY finished.

Thanks again, Claus...you are THE MAN!!

Cheers,

Dan

Great job, Dan, I have always had a weak spot for the Austro-Hungarian aircraft and yours is a real beauty!

I especially admire how you managed to assemble her keeping perfect geometry, I can imagine how difficult it must have been.

Thumbs up!

Cheers
