Thanks very much for all the wonderful comments, they are very much appreciated.

I have made all the wing struts and am now in the process of making the top wing, this is a slow job so the next up-date may be a while away.

More photos are posted on my main website where the full build log is recorded  http://www.ww1aircraftmodels.com/page51.html

With there being so much on this forum I haven't even looked at this until now. That engine you have made, Des, is fantastic!

In my opinion, scratch-building is the purest form of the art of modelling and you are indeed the master of the art.

It's inspirational and I really do want to have a go at scratching something (no, not my backside!  ;) ) now.

After a very long break due to a severe back injury which prevented my from sitting at my work bench I have now managed to re-commence work on this scratch build, hopefully I will be able to catch-up on lost time.

The top wing is made and now fitted to the struts, the photos show the wings self supporting with no rigging so the tips droop just a little. I made a heap of rigging brackets which are fitted to the top and bottom of each strut, these are made from flattened 0.8mm aluminium tube and drilled with 0.4mm holes. The wing joining brackets on top of the top wing are also from flattened 0.8mm aluminium tube. Rigging will be the next step.

That's incredible Des..

It must be frustrating watching mortals sticking together 'kits' ;)

Hope you're back to fitness again.

Thanks Bo, Scott, Alain and Guy for your very nice comments, they are much appreciated.

I would probably be 90% back to fitness, another few days should see me at full health again. I spent a good part of today at my bench rigging the Curtiss with no real side effects to my back, I just made sure I got up and walked around every half hour  :)

Glad to see you're almost back to "normal" Des (I'll leave the definition to you!). I'm looking forward to seeing this one rigged!

Glad you're back in better health.
Father Christmas brought me the book. It's really an exceptionnal book for all who love the history of early Curtiss.
Thank you very much Des and happy to see updates again.

Good to hear you're nearly at 100% Des. The breaks every half hour are very obviously very important and good back pain management.
Also great to see progress on this lovely bird ;)
