Hello from NY state USA
« on: May 30, 2012, 08:37:51 AM »
I reside in   "upstate" NY, basically a "country  boy"
I have been a model builder in the past but, work etc has taken most of my spare time.
However. I am now retired with more  free time and  plan on getting back into it.
My main modeling pasion aways lied with aircraft of all eras but, I always had a particular penchant for WWI aircraft.

I consider  myself a somewhat advanced builder but I would be the first to admit that I have much to learn.

I have not built a model for years and to just get back into to swing of things, rebuild my confidence, and use some new (to me) materials, I am starting with a Tamiya 1/32 P-51.

However, I have my eye on a WNW SE5a as my first WWI aircraft.    :)

Welcome to the forum, Joe.  Great to be retired, ain't it?  You come from a really pretty part of the country.  Spent a lot of time up there in my younger years.
Look forward to seeing your SE5a project unfold here.
Cheers,
Bud

Welcome aboard from Newcastle, on the north shore of Lake Ontario! It's good to see someone else 'local' joining up. You can't go wrong with a Tamiya kit to get your feet wet again, and I think you'll find that the WnW kits are of the same quality. There's a great bunch of guys on board here so I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for the warm welcomes.  :)

I  found this site from a search  for "WWI aircraft models" and it was instrumental in helping to  renewing my interest in models in general.
It also made me want me to  be even more meticulous in my model building  as the "build logs" etc., cetainly set a high bar to strive for.

It may be a while before I get to the SE-5a.
Although it would not be the first time I built more than one model simultaneously and, I probably will order the SE-5a kit soon. However, summer is here in the north east US.........

BTW, I'm currently starting to build  a 1/32 1915 Ford Model "T" kit and I will attempt to make silk purse out of a sow's ear. It will go great with any WWI era aircraft  and allow me to experiment with different paints, weathering, adding details,  etc .

It's the "Lindberg"  kit. It's a very basic kit... the only one I know of in 1/32
Yes, it just a starting point. Many parts will have to be  fabricted, improved  and some parts will be completly replaced.
I'm building it with the top down.

At least, the Model T only has one gague on the dash so, it will be about the easiest part to fashion, unlike all the pedals and levers on the floor and steering column. :)
