Either the Eduard or Roden kit is more accurate than the old DML Dragon kit. If you go with the Roden kit, there are two items to keep in mind. The root ribs on the lower wing assemby fit too tightly with the fuselage. Therefore the root ribs must be sanded down slightly. Also you must choose between showing the exposed engine on the assembled engine frames or showing the front fuselage closed up. If you go with the engine panels in place, you must not use the engine frames. The engine must be attached to the inside of the engine panels. Using the combination the engine frames and panels will make the front fuselage assembly too wide.
I have six types of detailed photoetch engine panels with separate access doors that can be used with the engine frames as they are much thinner. If interested, contact me at  [email protected]

I've seen Berman's PE frets for the Roden kit; they are brilliant...

Hello did you mine your D VII echt sets?
Or have you other sets?
Your D VII etch sets are so wonderful. I use one for the group build.

I've built a couple of the Eduard profipack DVIIs and they are great.  Not too happy with their decals, they are very fragile and brittle, but everything else is top notch.

Berman has it right, but the main question you need to ask yourself is do you want the engine panels closed or open?  Based on photos of the plane you are building this will answer the question which kit is the best for you, the main issue with the Eduard D.VII is that the upper engine cowls are molded closed as part of the fuselage half, and there is no interior engine compartment detail and only a rough approximation of a slightly small Mercedes engine.  For the BMW engine they tell you to use the same engine but give a different carb & intake pipes for the BMW.  The Roden kit on the other hand, while slightly fiddly to assemble is the kit that you want if you are doing an aircraft with the upper cowls removed, as were many of the early D.VII's in the summer of 1918.  The Roden kit gives you two different engines, a nicely detailed Mercedes and BMW.  They also give you all of the inner framework and separate side panels.

of the eduard, roden and dml, the dml is the last choice. the detail is softer than both the others in general and the profile doesnt match known accurate drawings. the eduard is easier to build but the roden gives you more options to super detail although its a toss up due to the roden having some fit issues.the main decider is do you want to show the engine compartment? if yes go with the roden and just make sure you test fit alot before glueing as there will require sanding and scraping to make it happen. if not go with eduard.

Thank you all for the answers I think I go with one from Eduard en one from Roden.
I want to build the sieben schwaben version( my daughter bought a decalsheet for this one so I think that I use one from Eduard for this one.
But it will not be impossible that I buy some more because I think there are quite a few interesting color schemes :)

True Rob, on my shelf I have 6 D.VII's finished, two Eduard, two Roden, one Dragon/DML and one that is a combo of Dragon parts with Eduard fuselage and scratchbuilt rudder.

I just managed to buy my first 1/48Fokker D-VII from Roden together with a Nieuport 28 also from Roden .
Toghether they were 19 pound  on e-bay. So I think it is a good deal.

Where can I purchase the photoetchset for the cowlings and what is the price of them

With regards

Rob :)
