Oliver Beaulieu-Marconnay Albatros colors & markings?
« on: September 01, 2014, 06:01:42 PM »
I have the Eduard 1/72 Albatros D.V kit of Oliver Beaulieu-Marconnay's Jasta 18 machine, with a red nose and blue fuselage and the 4-D personal emblem.  The kit's color guide calls for green/mauve wing upper surfaces, red struts, and the decals have narrow straight-sided crosses with wide white borders.  On the WingNuts website, however, they show Beaulieu-Marconnay's Albatros with wing upper surfaces the same blue color as the fuselage, the struts are gray, and the crosses are the earlier patée style (concave curved arms).  Also, the WingNuts profile shows partially overpainted fuselage crosses, while the Eduard kit has no fuselage crosses.  Are these in fact different actual schemes used on different aircraft or different times, or is one, the other, or both incorrect?  Thanks for any insights!

Stuart

Hello Stuart,
Did you see the photos page on WNW site ? :

http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/productdetail?productid=3022&cat=1

Some close ups of the Beaulieu-Marconnay's Albatross.
Don't know however if this pilot had several Albatross with personnal markings...

Anyone maybe have this book : http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/Jasta-18-%E2%80%93-The-Red-Noses_9781849083355

cheers

Hi Stuart,
I am guessing two different aircraft,  The one that WNW did is documented with photos and by the style of the cross I would say it is earlier than the one on the Roden decals.  In the book http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/Jagdgeschwader-Nr-II-Geschwader-%E2%80%98Berthold%E2%80%99_9781841767277  there is a photo of two Albatros fighters of Jasta 15 taking off, one is clearly von Beaulieu-Marconnay, and has the mauve and green wings with straight crosses.  The brand on the fuselage also looks thicker than the one on the Wingnuts photo, so I would guess that they are not the same aircraft.

Thanks very much!  I'll go with the kit scheme and decals then.

Thanks!
