I mistakenly assumed engine panel interiors to be bare aluminum,... I now believe they were actually Fokker gray/green, and have painted this area accordingly. Portions of the engine (not installed yet), had to be butchered to fit inside framing, but it's not real noticeable.

Looking at photo this morning (I'm obsessing over this model now), I noticed that I inadvertently painted engine area the wrong green! I had intended to use RLM 02, but used 82 instead. Oh well, back to the paint booth with her.

OK, engine area repainted (with a more correct color this time), and I think it looks lots better now.

Not willing to wait any further, I’ve cleaned up and began painting fuselage. Since I still have to add some minor detailing to engine area, I’ll install engine and paint radiator later. I’ve used Floquil reefer white for this,… it dries fast and will cover almost anything. I may be able to mask and paint stripes later today, but I don’t want to push too fast.

Not real sure why Roden depicted three filler caps here; my references say two. I’ve taken the liberty of adding small discs to tops to present a more round appearance, as well as the twist off handles. Again, another complete fake job.

Entering the home stretch, (wings wise).

Trying something new here, I’ve lightly drawn outlines to represent fabric stretched over tubular framework. After a light dusting of flat white, this should lend a little “character” to rear end of airframe, (I hope). Black areas, once painted, will get a similar treatment.

it is looking purdy damn sweet kevin. youre doing a bang up job on the front end. my first roden dvii looks like a 12 year old built it. i didnt realise until i read someone elses build that the engine support framing was given as a part and molded onto the side cowl panels so my second one i removed the detail and thinned the panels.also the bottom wing fillet doesnt fit in the slot well. i like the eduard better in some ways but now that i'm a better modeller the roden doesnt seem that horrid.

Well there is an inner, as well as outer, tubular framework in the engine area of the D.VII. If one were to remove the engine panels altogether (not just the uppers as I'm doing), Roden also supplies the outer tubular framework (that are molded integral to panels), as separate pieces.

One thing that really bugged me was the rather shallow, almost non-existent, leather coaming around rear of pit opening. I've improved the appearance of this area with the addition of some Gunze thinned putty.

Trying my hand at a wood (not necessarily laminated), look for the prop. I like it so far, and may just keep it this way.
