I'm in a minority of one!!

Maybe because I've done probably more resin kits than plastic?

Make that two.

My experience with resin (also white metal) is more related to quite a few 1:24 & 1:43 scale cars rather than aircraft - although I’ve built a couple of resin aircraft in the past as well as the Bristol I’m slowly working on at the moment.

I like resin kits although in certain respects they do require more work than the best styrene ones & often need a certain amount of scratch building of the smaller details. It’s ironic that resin kit manufacturers rarely include detail components approaching the quality of the dedicated ‘aftermarket’ resin detail companies.

As a change I’m looking forward to getting to grips with a plastic Encore or WnW kit though.

Silver Wings & HPH do absolutely spectacular resin kits that are a joy to build. There are some resin kits that need some work - GMF's Hs-129 needed a lot of work - but I'd certainly recommend Silver Wings for inter - war "golden age" biplane kits & HPH for more modern stuff. Their Supermarine Walrus in 1/32 is superb, if not a tad bit expensive. Their 1/32 Catalina is legendary.

I’ve got a Silver Wings kit waiting to be built & it is excellent.

I’ve also just had delivered the HPH Mig-15 in 1:32 scale which is their latest kit. It’s a very detailed kit but I’ve got to say I was slightly disappointed with the finish to the edges of the fuselage casting on the Mig. There will always be some work required to get the edges as flush as possible & then fill the joint along the top & bottom of the fuselage, reinstate lost surface detail etc - but the edges of the fuselage in my kit are not very well done & will result in more work than normal. This aspect is below the standard of casting I’d expect on a resin kit of the price it is. I may have been unlucky with my particular kit but that’s still a HpH quality control problem.

That aside, it’s a very good kit overall with a vast number of well detailed parts & the best 1:32 kit of the Mig-15 available.

Marsh Models/Aerotech do some nice ‘between the wars’ 1:32 resin kits, mainly of racing aircraft. I’ve got a Mew Gull underway with a DH.88 Comet in the ‘stash’.

Maybe worth dropping HPH an email? I had an issue with a canopy & a replacement arrived within a couple of days.

I'm not a resin hater- I've used tons of the stuff- but for major airframe components I still prefer injection molded parts. I only have a few resin kits in the stash, among which the 1/48th Karaya DH.5 appears to be the finest.  I never seem to have enough cash in the hobby piggy to plop down on a Silver Wings kit, but they do have some in their line that I crave so maybe someday if they remain available.

Superb finishes on those planes. A colourful British WWI warplane, a rare beast indeed!

Thanks for the links Graham, it certainly looks like it is going to be a great kit, and with some colourful markings.

Thanks Jeff for the info but they are listed as out of stock for 30 days, I'm still tossing up which one to get.

Thanks for the link, looks like a very colourful and interesting kit.

Special Hobby look to have improved their instructions, with more than a hint of WNW influence evident.

I'll certainly be getting one.
