Thanks for the heads up, although a few of them, including the aces version, are on backorder.

Hi Ian,

Sounds like they must have gone very quickly. They were all "In Stock" just before I made the post.

I did not care of the version. I have those fantastic Rowan's decals (his first set produced) to decorate the model. So I ordered one from those which were still in stock - the Japanese version. Plastic is surely the same.  ;)

I think they must have had only one of each; I ordered the Type 9901, because it was in stock, and it immediately went out of stock after I completed my order.

So, the HR Model's Pup in Japanese version has just arrived to me.
It is a very fine production, the main elements fit nicely the scale drawings from WDS. The surface detail on the fuselage (linen over the the wooden formers at the sides, stiching, fuel caps) as well as on the flying and control surfaces (ribs, false ribs, linen between) is very fine. So are the finely detailed wheels with stiching and spokes under the linen. The cockpit interior has the characteristic basic features (wooden elements on the sides and bottom). There is some flash on the elements, but should be easy to get rid of. Engines (three options) are not the best but after all I have recently seen too much Small Stuff resin things (I will use their 80hp Rhone I made erronously for my current build - bristol Scout)
All in all - a very fine model in 72nd scale - should build into a very decent Puppie.

Thanks Przemol for the run down on the kit, it sounds as if it is going to be a beauty, I'm looking forward to seeing the first build log on the forum.

I have just recently received a couple of the HR Models Sopwith Pups and Phonix C.I. Very nice indeed. In the last couple of years they have released these two kits and also a Hanriot HD.1/HD.2 and the Nieuport 10. I tip my hat to them for producing these kits in 1/72 scale. It would be nice to see an updated Nieuport 28 and Sopwith Triplane among others. Let's hope!!

I totally agree!
I just ordered the Pup and Phoenix, already have the Nieuport 10 and Hanriot.
I would love to see them take the reins from Airfix and Revell and update all those old clunky kits - a decent RE8, Hannover, Roland C.II, Nieuport 28, Tripe, and 0/400....I'm almost dribbling at the thought! Or maybe some of the 2 seaters  that are almost unavailable.....DFW C.V, A-W FK8.....

Has anyone actually built one of these yet? I started mine but it's been put aside until I can work out a way to fit the top plane.
All of the struts are seperate pieces and there are no location holes in the fuselage for the cabane struts, and only the shallowest dimples to show where the struts should go on the lower plane. There is nothing to positively locate any of the struts, or to help set them at the required angles.

It's very disappointing. I'd expected more for a brand-new 21st century kit!

Drill the struts and dimples with a 0.3mm drill and use 5 amp fuse wire to make the joint ;)

Not sure what you mean, old chap  :-\ (I could have sworn I'd replied to this earlier but my post hasn't appeared)

Thanks, Przemol. I understand now. Whilst that makes the parts a better and stronger fit, it doesn't help in lining the struts up on the Pup. Because they are all individual parts it means that getting the angles (and therefore the amount of stagger) correct isn't going to be easy

Even the ancient Airfix pup had better location of parts and came with a crude jig to set the stagger, so I expected better of this new kit.

Squiffy, for British single-strut wing cellules I use cardboard jigs and temporary supports for the struts which can be adjusted  and corrected - this done be eye-verification from three sides vs scale drawings and ruler measurements of distances between the strut tips. Here you can check how I did this on Roden's SE5a:
http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=689.0
When the geomatry is satisfying I introduce tiny drops of glue to the strut-wing connection using a sharpened toothpick.
Recently I have replaced the yellow Patafix blobs with supports bent from pieces of wire with bases made of lead pieces to stabilize them (sorry, I do not have a photo of those ) and easy to move on a flat surface in front and behind the wings resting firmly on the jig.
