Hi:
I have not been modeling much since the winter of 2012 and a couple of moths ago I felt the desire to not only build a model; but to actually complete one. I saw an advertisment of the Wingnut Wings' Junker J.1 at the Wellington Model Expo and thought it was a very striking scheme and said that looks cool! I don't know if Wingnuts will ever do those markings; but it definitely looks different.
I made the base with a grass mat called Model Scene Gass Mat glued to a wood base. They make several varieties and there are in 7" X 11" pieces and are supposed to be stretched and glued to a base for a railroad. The mat easily stretches to to fit an
8 1/2" X 12" wood base and just glue down with white glue. I painted the top of the base with brown and green paint before covering and I sprinkled some ground cover to fill in any gaps.
I didn't do a build log or in progress shots, I just wanted to actually build something; so here she is.
The inspiration

The plane

I tried something that Bertl did with the rear machine gun mount on his HB W.29. I didn't add the chain; but I like the offset of the handle and I added a wingnut

I used Aviattic's 5 color lozenge and it looks really nice; but I need more practice. It is not very forgiving if you make a mistake
