Need some Help Deciding on WNW kits to order!
« on: July 29, 2014, 06:23:25 AM »
My wife and I have our 32nd Anniversary on July 31st! In turn for going into debt on a New Sofa and accessories I am granted a license to order some Models. WNW is certainly going to be the recipient of my order. Now the choices: I Like Modeling themes thus JG1, 56 sq., N./SPA. 124, 43sq., 19sq., and the 27th& 94th USAS.

I have an Encore SE5a Hisso in the Stash and also a Roden Pfalz DIII. So should I get the WNW SE5a, and Pfalz DIIIa to further my collections?.... or an OAW Fokker DVII to put something in the GB that I can actually finish?
1. Pfalz DIIIa
2. SE5a
3.Fokker DVII (OAW)
4. Salmson
I may be able to get 3 out of 4. What do you guys think?

Rick, I would take a SE5a and a Pfalz D.IIIa.
Sometime is there besides the price tag a deep red "Sold-Out" in New Zealand..........  ???

I vote for the ones with black crosses on them.

Thanks, that is kind of the way my mind is going with the Salmson as a close third if I can swing it.

Thanks Bertl, Your answer is EXACTLY why I am debating my choices. Is the SE that much better than the Encore/Roden?

The Encore Se.5a is a very good kit - not quite WNW quality but a step up from Roden's normal offering. Lots of PE & resin give it a great level of detail.

Personally, I don't buy a WNW kit if I have it already. So I've got Roden's Tripe and not WNW's version.

I prefer different models, rather than several of the same type. It's more interesting to me, so I'd get the Fokker if I were you.

I'd get the WNW Bristol if you've not already got it. Their best kit and it may well sell out soon.

If you like the Salmson design then I would go for that - it is a totally brilliant kit and the aircraft has a ton of surface and interior detail that WNW pulls off wonderfully (as typical)... The rigging is a bit scary though....

The Encore SE.5a is a very good kit and loaded with extras, you would be better off investing into something else instead of a Wingnuts SE.5a, as I have said many times, the best kit Wingnuts have produced so far is the Bristol F.2b Fighter, if you haven't got one consider it highly.

Justin said it best , anything with crosses on the wing  ;)

The Se5a by WNW is a nice kit but Des does make good point . If you have the Encore kit no need for the WNW one , here the Bristol would be prefect . I did have this kit in the stash but ended up trading with a friend who needed one for a up coming project .
The Pfalz D.IIIa I recommend , wonderful kit

basically Rick what ever you feel will give you the best modeling experience and joy .

I agree for the same reason, amigo.  That's why I just ordered the Pfalz D.IIIa.  I recently got the SE5a and it's a brilliant kit.  But Des is right, as well.  That Biff is spectacular and may soon be sold out so, if you can get 3, get the Biff.  The Salmson will be around for  while.
Cheers,
Bud

Rick, I would also go with the SE5a and Pfalz D.IIIa.  Hard to know what will sell out
next, but I think they would be in the running.  Have fun deciding my, friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

The selling out thing is a concern- not life of death, but I feel better having an Albie or ....4 on the shelf. The Se5a is actually a lot better than Roden, but you might be better served buying a Pfalz, and maybe a pair of Albies. I don't remember offhand, does the OAW come with lozenge? That would be a factor for me.

Since you have the Encore SE, Rick, and you think you can get 3 or 4 then from your list if I were in your shoes I'd go for the Pfalz, Fokker, and Salmson.  Or, as Terri says, the Bristol F.2b, or perhaps the DH.2 and an Eindekker. Or...

Thanks for all of the input guys/and gal.
So far I am fixed on the Pfalz, with the OAW DVII a high probable. Not sure on a third yet but I have eliminated the SE5a. As stated the Encore kit isn't WNW but I do have experience with the Roden kit. Some may recall seeing the Photos in My Hall of Shame Models of the almost complete Roden Viper Powered SE that I knocked off of my counter shortly after the photos were taken.

So now to decide about a possible 2 seater, that F2b is tempting, as is the Rumpler.....

Hi Rick

I am now very biast towards two seaters. I do 1/48 and I am spoilt for choice in the one seater department but suffer a not so large range in two seaters. This is of course not the case with WNW and larger planes look all the better in 1/32. If it was me I would get the salmson and a couple of other two seaters. They were after all the ones that 'did the work'.

Hello, Rick -

As it happens I'm building the WNW SE5a and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far - to date, the standard of fit and ease of assembly has been superb so I vote for this one ...............

Thanks for the advice Alan! By the way I was watching a History Channel show on WW1 the other night and it had a short video segment of your BE Airship. Pretty cool!
